Nevertheless, the lecturer in the listening gives a divergent standpoint that the information in the memoir is pretty reliable.The reading passage begins with the point that Chevalier is not that wealthy as written because it tu
2、rns out that he had to borrow money from a merchant. The lecturer, however, suscribes to a completely different view that Chavalier was indeed very rich at that time. It is specified that he actually spent a lot of money holding parties and gambling and the explanation for his loan between the merch
3、ant is that he borrowed the money only when he was waiting for the money to come from the conversion of his assets to cash.The second point brought by the reading passage is that Chevalier couldnt have remembered the exact conversion between he and Voltaire so he cant put them in his memoir. The lec
4、turer offers a alternative account that the content of the conversation was actually written down completely at the exact night of the conversation so Chevalier could probably remember them and write them referring to those note several years later when he was writing his memoir. The proof to this i
5、s that people had witnessed the regular notes and journals about the conversation during consultations.In contrast to the last point in the reading passage that Chevalier couldnt have escaped from the notorious prison as written in the memoir but got out with the aid of his friends bribery, the prof
