6、al.2.Do you know why the Chinese students become more and more interested in the foreign festivals ?Much to our surprise, however, the Chinese students have been showing more and more enthusiasm for such festivals as Valentines Day, April Fools Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, popular in the

7、 West.There may be as many reasons for students to grow fonder of these foreign festivals, but, on the whole, three major factors should call for our concern. First, it is the nature of young people to seek for novelty and individuality, which our open-door policy has made possible. Second, celebrat

8、ing foreign festivals is believed to be the best way of escaping from reality, in which most of the students are being subjected to all kinds of stress. And above everything else, it is a direct product of more and more exchanges between our cultures and Western cultures.3. Ask students if they know

9、 the origin if Valentines Day.Valentines Day: Valentine was a priest in Rome at the time Christianity was a new religion. The Emperor at that time, Claudius II, ordered the Roman soldiers not to marry or become engaged. Claudius believed that as married men, his soldiers would want to stay home with

10、 their families rather than fight his wars. Valentine defied the Emperors decree and secretly married the young couples. He was eventually arrested, imprisoned, and put to death. Valentine was beheaded on February 14th, the eve of the Roman holiday Lupercalia (牧神节).After his death, Valentine was nam

11、ed a saint. As Rome became more Christian, the priests moved the spring holiday from the 15th of February to the 14th Valentines Day.4.
