1、Mt.Huashan is located on the south of Huayin City,some 120 kilometers east of Xian.To the north,there is theYellow River;to the south,there is Qinling Mountain Range.With an altitude of 2,200 meters,Mt.Huashan is a hugebody of granite and boasts five imposing peaks with precipices and overhanging ro
2、cks:the East Peak,also calledthe Sunrise Peak,is the best location to view the sunrise;the West Peak,also called Lotus Peak,has the steepestprecipices and the South Peak,also called Wild Goose Peak,is the Moutains highest peak;the Middle Peak,alsonamed Jade Maiden Peak,links the other four peaks;the
3、 North Peak,also known as Cloudy Terrace Peak,seesvertical cliffs on its three sides.From a distance,these five major peaks look like a lotus flower among themountains,for Hua means flower in Chinese,hence the name.As one of the five most sacred Taoist mountains inChina,Mountain Huashan is known as
4、NO.1 precipitous mountain under heaven.Now,lets go on with the second part-a sample hiking route.The most common chosen hiking route aroundMountain Huashan is like this:with the aid of cable car,we easily arrive at the North Peak,skipping around 4 hoursof hard climbing and crawling through the Thous
5、and-foot Precipice,the Hundred-foot Crevice,and Laojuns Furrow.Then across the Blue Dragon Ridge,the next stop is the middle peak,where you will see the Jade Maiden Temple.Going on,we will arrive at the East Peak where tourists usually wait and see the sunrise,and then the South Peak,which is the hi
6、ghest.After the South Peak,the West Peak,which is considered the most beautiful and precipitous,will lead us back to the North Peak,where the cable cars will take us back to the Tourists Service Center.1When visiting the North Peak,tourists should be told that the North Peak is surrounded by cliffs
7、on three sides,making it look like a flat terrace in clouds,so its named Cloudy Terrace Peak.There is only one stone path leadingto the south,the Ear-rubbing Cliff.It is the fourth precipitous path where tourists can climb up only by pressing anear close to the cliff When on the top of the Middle Pe
8、ak,tourists will see the Taoist Temple-“Jade Maiden Temple”.Legend has itthat,Nongyu,the daughter of Duke Qin Mugong in the Early Qin Dynasty,loved a man name Xiaoshi so much thatshe gave up the royal life to live here together with Xiao Shi.In honor of Nongyus pursuit of love,happiness andfreedom,p
9、eople named the peak the Jade Maiden Peak.The East Peak is also called the Morning Sun Peak.It is the best place to see the sunrise.To help visitors viewthe sunrise,an astronomical telescope is provided there.The reference time for sunrise is from 4:30 to 6 a.m.Onewell-known scenic spot on the East
10、Peak is called Gods Hand Print on Mount Huashan.”This scenic spot is ranked first in“Eight Scenic Attractions Across the Guanzhong Plain Area.It refers to the natural rock pattern which lookslike a giant hand print.The South Peak,as I have mentioned,is the highest.On the top,it is covered by pines a
11、nd cypresses.Theyprovide deep shade and extend for a few miles.The top of the South Peak is a huge rock.It carries inscriptions ofpoem and mottoes carved by men of letters of various dynasties.Among those inscriptions,a verse by Kouzhunfrom Song dynasty,goes like this:Head raised,I see the red sun n
12、ear,and head bowed,the white cloud low.Theverse vividly describes the scene when standing on the top of the South Peak.As tourists reach the final peak,the West Peak,they will find the West Peak is a huge granite rock.The peak wasalso named the Lotus Flower Peak.It is because the big rock in front o
13、f Cuiyun Palace is shaped much like a lotusflower,hence the Lotus Flower Peak.The West Peak has numerous tourist spots including Cuiyun Palace,LotusFlower Cave and Axe-hewing Rock.Each site has its own beautiful myth and legend.The legend of Chen Xiang,afilial son,who split the mountain with an axe
14、to save his mother,is quite intriguing.A popular cartoon film calledLotus Lantern was made to portray this legend.Standing on top of any peak of Mount Huashan,tourists can see breath-taking views.When they look far intothe distance,they can get a misty view of the central Shaanxi Plain,and they will
15、 feel completely relaxed and happy.For conquering the difficulties of climbing the mountain,people make themselves the peak Mountain Huashan.Yousee,people are the true heroes.In the last part of the lesson,Id like to share some important tips with you when touring in Mount Huashan.Number 1,safety.Mo
16、untain Huashan is best-known for its precipices.They can be life-threatening.So makesure each step is safe,whoever you are,the guide or the tourist.Number 2,reminders.There are signs or written reminders along the lanes in Mount Huashan.Be wise to readthem.Tour guides should also remember that,never talk to tourists while you both are climbing.Remind the touriststhat no talking whiling climbing,and no climbing while talking.Number 3,what to wear.The temperature on top of the mountain is much lower in all seasons,so warm-keepingclothes and climbing boots are strongly suggested.2
