With this trend, more and more western factors have spread to China, among which, western novel

As a major carrier of American culture，American novel helps a lot in transformation and reflecting culture, and thus bring a lot of psychological as well as social impact on our daily life.Among the modern novelists of America, Francis Scott Fitzgerald once won a high admirat
4、ion and reputation. He is considered as one of the most influential American writers in twentieth century. Defined by Fitzgerald,Jazz Agerefers to the ten years from 1919 to 1929. This was a period during which economy was booming and the values of people were changing greatly. With the economic pro
5、sperity, moral decay has become more and more serious day by day. The Great Gatsby which was published in America in 1925 for the first time opened to much critical acclaim for its profound ideological content and the artistic way the author developed the topic in it. Seeming, it is just a love trag
6、edy happening in that social background. Actually once taking a further understanding on the content of the novel, the readers can realized that various aspects of the society in those years have been described in the novel. The content of this novel is refined with an intelligent structure. One of
7、the roles in the novel Nick Carraway observed everything and everybody around him. Nicks feeling and reflection on them seem to make the story a fable which endows the novel with a cautionary significance. In this progress of the change of American Dream, the character of Gatsby plays an important r
8、ole. As far as this point, the author will analyze the character of Gasby, and try to find some different point to make a contribution about study of this field.3. Thesis Statement3.1Research MethodologyDifferent people have different ideas in the field of studies. Therefore, the research must be li
9、mited in a certain range. The thesis is based on qualitative approach, content analysis, comparative research and case study.A qualitative approach was applied, using the content analysis method, which is a common analysis approach in qualitative research. Qualitative approach is one of the most com
10、monly used methods in literary research, which refers to emphasizes the relationships between behavior, phenomenon and their background, the process of their changes and the meaning that behaviors and phenomena have towards the actors. So The author will scientifically investigate the realistic situ
11、ation or historical conditions about the research of The Great Gasby. Then the author will analyze the collected materials to know about the research subject.Comparative research method, is to compare the two things so as to know the nature of things and then to make the right evaluation. It is focu
12、sed on the differences and similarities between two kinds of things. In this thesis, the author will illustrated different role of this novel and compare them.The last one is case study. It means have a specific exploration on one thing that can have right evaluation or concluded some useful informa
