( 个人、集体、民族等特有的 ) 品质;特性。 e.g. She is a woman of go
8、od character. 她是一个个性极好的妇女。 Although they are twins, their characters are quite different.4. How hungry would you have to be to eat a shoe?1) 句子结构理解2) to eat a shoe 是动词不定式短语, 作结果状语。What have I done to deserve so much? 我做了什么值得得到这么多?She went abroad never to return. 她出国了,再也没回来。3) you 是泛指, 相当于 a person,
9、anyone, one , 意思是“任何一个人。 e.g. The more you earn, the more tax you pay.赚得越多,交税也越多。 5. Then he cuts off the leather top of the shoe, treating it as if it were the finest beat. 然后他把鞋子上端的皮子切下来,就像是切下一块最好的肉。词汇:1cut off to separate by cutting it from the main part. 切下,砍下,割下 Her little finger was cut off in

Electricity is cut off during a storm. 2as if 好似 = as though 引导方式状语从句,表示的假设是非真实情况,谓语动词要用虚拟语气,假设与现在事实相反,从句用过去时态;假设与过去事实相反,从句用过去完成时。 be动词一律用were. He looks as if he were sick. She
11、spoke to me as if I were deaf. He talked about Japan as if he had been there many times. He makes it seem as if it was one of the best meals he has ever had! as if / though 从句中的情况假设有可能,可用直述语气。 e.g. It looks as if it is going to snow. I feel as if my leg was going to fall off. as if / though 后可以直接跟分词
12、或不定式。 e.g. He opened his mouth as if to speak. He stared at the girl as if seeing her for the first time. From then on, the girl worked very hard as if inspired by the speech.6. You can imagine how difficult it is to chew, but he seems to eat every mouthful with great enjoyment. He makes it seem as
