The year of 2003 is the tenth year since the number of postgraduate test takers began to grow rapidly and steadily. However since then the rising line has gradually plateaued

12、 year by year with a modest rise of 6.7% 1.8% 2.1% respectively in 2004 2005 2006. In 2007 the number of test takers even dropped by 6.5% in comparison with 2006. All these statistics point to an interesting phenomenon the post-graduate test after a ten-year craze is starting to cool off. Three majo

13、r factors account for the cooling off of the post-graduate craze. One is the post- graduate education reform. Postgraduate students used to enjoy a modest government subsidy for their three year studies. But according to the new graduate program they have to pay for all their living and learning exp

14、enses. Faced with the rising education costs some students hesitate to apply for the teat. Another factor is the pressure from the increasingly competitive job market. Many students used to believe that the more education they received the better job opportunities they would have. With the expanded

15、enrollment for both undergraduates and postgraduates job hunt becomes more and more difficult. Many students fear that when they finish their post-graduate studies the positions will have been already occupied. Moreover many companies prefer experienced employees to new graduates who tend to know no

16、thing but impractical book knowledge. As a result some students decide to start work early so as to accumulate more work experiences. In my opinion before we make the choice we need to think twice. What kind of job do I really want to do? Does the job require practical work experience or theoretical

17、 knowledge? Can the graduate program offer what I want to learn?
