When he woke up, he was still on the mattress. Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress an

You can sit here in your spare time and read the carpet! Lesson53 Hot snake 触电的蛇At last firemen have put out a big forest fire in California. Since then

18、, they have been trying to find out how the fire began. Forest fire are often caused by broken glass or by cigarette ends which people carelessly throw away. Yesterday the firemen examined the ground carefully, but were not able to find any broken glass. They were also quite sure that a cigarette en

19、d did not start the fire. This morning, however, a fireman accidentally discovered the cause. He noticed the remains of a snake which was wound round the electric wires of a 16,000-volt power line. In this way, he was able to solve the mystery. The explanation was simple but very unusual. A bird had

20、 snatched up the snake from the ground and then dropped it on to the wires. The snake then wound itself round the wires. When it did so, it sent sparks down to the ground and these immediately started a fire.Lesson54 Sticky fingers 粘糊的手指After breakfast, I sent the children to school and then I went

21、to market. It was still early when I returned home. The children were at school, my husband was at work and the house was quiet. So I decided to make some tarts for tea. In a short time I was busy mixing butter and flour and my hands were soon covered with sticky pastry. At exactly that moment, the

22、telephone rang. Nothing could have been more annoying. I picked up the receiver between two sticky fingers and was dismayed when I recognized the voice of Mrs Bates. It took me ten minutes to persuade her to ring back later. At last I hung up the receiver. What a mess! There was pastry on my fingers

23、, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs. I had no sooner got back to the kitchen than the door-bell rang loud enough to wake the dead. 24、ly. A new machine called The Revealer has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where-it is said-pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Arm

25、ed with the new machine, a search party went he did not like it. She enjoyed herself making the assistant bring almost everything in the window before finally buying the dress she had first asked for.Lesson58 A blessing in disguise? 是因祸得福吗?The tiny village of Frinley is said to possess a cursed tree

26、. Because the tree was mentioned in a newspaper, the number of visitors to Frinley has now increased. The tree was planted near a church fifty years ago, but it is only in recent years that it has gained an evil reputation. It is said that if anyone touches the tree, he will have bad luck; if he pic

27、ks a leaf, he will die. Many villagers believe that the tree has already claimed a number of victims. The vicar has been asked to have the tree cut down, but so far he has refused. 30、ed him in the garden near the gate. This time he was barking so that someone would let him out ! Since then, he has developed another bad habit. As soon as he opens the gate from the outside, he comes into the garden and waits until the gate shuts. Then he sits and barks until someone lets him out.

31、After this he immediately lets himself in and begins barking again. Yesterday my husband removed the gate and Rex got so annoyed we have not seen him since. Lesson60 The future 卜算未来At a village fair, I decided to visit a fortune-teller called Madam Bellinsky. I went into her tent and she told me to

32、sit down. After I had given her some money, she looked into a crystal ball and said: A relation of yours is coming to see you. She will be arriving this evening and intends to stay for a few days. The moment you leave this tent, you will get a big surprise. A woman you know well will rush towards yo

33、u. She will speak to you and then she will lead you away from this place. That is all. As soon as I went outside, I forgot all about Madam Bellinsky because my wife hurried towards me. Where have you been hiding ? she asked impatiently. Your sister will be here in less than an hour and we must be at

34、 the station to meet her. We are late already. As she walked away, I followed her out of the fair. Lesson61 Trouble with the Hubble 哈勃望远镜的困境In future, astronauts will be required to descend from a spaceship while it is still in space and to return to it. 47、究报告编制依据1、国家发展和改革委员会关于发布项目申请报告通用文本的通知(发改投资20071169号);2、国家级福利院评定标准;3、陕西安康慈善福利院项目建议书;4、安康市慈善协会提供的相关资料;5、报告编制人员现场收集的资料;1.5 研究范围本报告的工作内容是对陕西安康慈善福利院建设进行可行性研究,具体是对本项目提出的背景、建设的必要性和意义、建设地址和建设条件、建设内容、项目组织实施管理及实施进度安排、投资估算及资金筹措、财务生存能力等内容进行综合性研究。1.6 项目建设单位情况介绍本项目建设单位安康市慈善协会,1998年由原汉滨区广播电视局局长张培祥为代表的一批老新闻工作者,自发创办了

48、安康广播电视慈善协会;2000年地改市后,正式更名为安康市慈善协会,由原安康地区人大工委主任熊邦高同志担任慈善协会会长;2007年4月,市慈善协会换届,原市人大常委会主任段吾勇同志担任第二届慈善协会会长。从1998年至今,市慈善协会已经走过了十年的历程。十年来,市慈善协会大力弘扬慈善理念,广泛募集慈善资金,积极开展慈善活动,累计募集各类慈善项目资金6500多万元,建校34所,修桥130座,资助贫困学生700多名。同时还开展了救灾、助残、济困、助医、修路等一系列慈善项目,受助困难群众50多万人。按照市委、市政府两办关于进一步推动慈善事业发展的意见,从去年开始,我们加强了慈善组织建设,除已成立的5

49、个县区慈善协会外,又新成立县慈善协会4个(紫阳、平利、汉阴、宁陕),正在筹备组建的1个(镇坪),建立乡镇慈善工作站30多个,全市发展慈善志愿者(会员)2000多名,其中市慈善协会800多名。形式多样的慈善志愿者(会员)小组活动在社会上产生了良好反响。此外,慈善协会10年来,多次为当地乡镇卫生院添置医疗设备,培训技术人员。并且在境外慈善组织的援助下,与医院合作,陆续为210名唇腭裂少儿做了矫治手术。安康市慈善协会在不断向公众传播着慈善理念,10年来,社会大众对慈善事业从不了解到了解,从曲解到理解,奉献爱心的人越来越多,从企业家,富翁到平民百姓,中小学生。退休老教师韩正楷自慈善协会成立以来,每年都要捐几百元,直到临终时还给子女留下遗言,要求他们每年都要捐款支持慈善。公众的善心、爱心和普遍参与,乃是慈善事业生存和发展的根本。1.7 项目建设地址陕西省安康市汉滨区新城办事处高井村二组(新城福利院东侧)。1.8 项目建设
