8、false romantic stories make the atmosphere of English literary world become vulgar and tasteless,and then the Sense and Sensibility turned out to break such a quiet situation1.As we all know,literature is always a true portrayal of the human world.Jan Austins work Sense and Sensibility is also her p
9、ortrayal of the psychology of a particular woman.Under the current social background,Sense and Sensibility from the perspective of women,making a vivid description of the love and marriage between the young gentlemen and ladies.Therefore,readers in the process of reading can always find some resonan

11、to interpret and appreciate the work of Sense and Sensibility.2 Chapter Two Jan Austin and Sense and Sensibility 2.1 A Brief Introduction of Jan Austin Jan Austin(1775-1817)is the most famous feminist literary writers in Britain at the end of eighteenth Century and early nineteenth Century,she had a
12、 significant impact on the development of female literature,Jan Austin focus on youth,marriage,family and other issues of concern to women.Although she has only completed six novels in her life,some people think that she has an important place in the history of English literature,as well as Shakespe
13、are2.Her first novel,Pride and Prejudice,came out in 1813,marking the arrival of women literature.Then Jan Austin wrote her second novel,Sense and Sensibility,then,the completion of the Mansfield Park(1814)Emma(1816)Northanger Abbey(1818)and Persuasion(1818).In the Austen era,the patriarchal status

17、es the feelings and fate of the Dashwood sisters.The three sisters and their mother had lived in the grand Nolan estate.But their father in good times dont last long,after his death,half brother got most of their heritage,and his mother had to leave the estate,moved to the countryside a shabby house
18、,lived a simple life.The elder sister Eleanor is a girl with good sensible and emotional self-control,the younger sister Mariannes character is diametrically opposed to Eleanor,she is wayward,cheerful,dare to love to hate3.So in the face of love,the two have different choices.The object of the elder
19、 sisters love is sister-in-laws brother Edward,who is a gentleman with a little knowledge.The feelings of the two is striking one snag after another.At first,Edward has not confess his love to Eleanor.In the muddled state,suddenly there was a girl named Lucy,said she had been secretly engaged with E

22、lly married and Eleanor.4 The younger sister Mariannes love comes and goes fast,she and Willoughby met at a rain lane.Willoughby looks handsome,cheerful,full of charm,he takes good care of Marianne,Marianne quickly blew the heart.However,when he learned that Marianne had no property for a splurge,he
23、 chose to leave Marianne,marry a rich girl.After that,Marianne had a serious illness,and many people laughed at her during that time,even her own value has a big gap4.However,the colonel Blanton,honest but nearly forty years in general appearance during her illness has been deep concern,finally won
24、the trust of Marianne,two people come together.5 Chapter Three The Female Characters and Their Characteristics in Sense and Sensibility 3.1 Eleanor and Her Characteristic Eleanor,the protagonist of the novel,is the ideal figure created by the author,and her character is noble and rational,in the soc
