3、 in the country.Shortly after my husband started work, he learned layoffs often occurred during the winter months. To compensate for the loss of income, he obtained a kennel license to raise and sell registered puppies, something he did throughout his teenage years. The kennel brought in the extra i

4、ncome we needed, and the children loved playing with the puppies. No one else lived in the area, so the occasional barking did not bother anyone.After a couple of years, other families began moving in around us. Each had five acres or more. Quickly, we became friends and enjoyed various celebrations

5、 and picnics together, creating many happy memories.The neighbor next to us came a year later. His brothers family lived across the street, and he was happy to be close to them. When they started looking for a spot to build their house, both his brother and my husband reminded him about our kennel.

6、My husband showed him the location of the kennel building so they could find a place to build away from the occasional noise. In the end, they decided to build on a small hill overlooking our house and dog kennel, about 100 feet from our shared property line.By the end of the first year in their new

7、 home, the neighbor began complaining about the dogs. My husband talked to him and explained the steps he was taking to mitigate the noise, which included moving some dogs and selling some. Unfortunately, nothing we did improved the situation for them.Over the next year, the neighbor called the dog

8、pound multiple times to file complaints, and he tried getting our kennel license revoked. Lastly, he called several times, telling us the dogs were now causing his wifes migraine headaches. All this conflict broke my heart.I didnt know what to do until the following Sunday. As I sat in church, liste

9、ning to our pastor preach from the “Sermon on the Mount,” my heart began pounding so hard I thought it might burst out of my body. He read the following Bible verses:“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave

10、 your gift there in front of the altar. First go, and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift” (Matthew 5:2324 NIV).It felt like the Lord spoke directly to me through those words, and I knew why. Like an old movie projector, showing slide after slide in rapid speed, pictures flashed in

11、my mind of the ongoing dispute with our neighbor. Now, God was nudging me to apologize. “But, Lord, it wasnt our fault! We were here first,” I whined to Him internally.As we drove home from church, I told my husband I needed to call our neighbors to apologize that afternoon.Once home, I tried to eat

12、 but couldnt. I prayed. I walked over to the phone, thinking about what to say. Then I walked away too scared to call. Finally, with one last desperate prayer, I picked up the phone. With my hands shaking and my heart thumping, I dialed.Thankfully, the neighbors wife answered the phone. I apologized

13、 for all the problems arising from our business and for causing her headaches. I told her we sold several dogs to lessen the noise and moved some. We felt we had tried everything we could to mitigate the sound and make it less stressful for her. When I finished, she said, “I am so glad you called. I

14、ve wanted to talk to you, too.”She explained how she knew it was not all our fault. Her husband got overly concerned when she started getting sick. The dogs bothered her occasionally, but she knew they did not cause her medical issues or headaches. She apologized to me, too, for all the distress thi

15、s situation had caused us.After hanging up the phone, I cried, thanking God for the peace that was now restored through forgiveness.The next day, I was even more thankful for this timely conversation because a “For Sale” sign appeared at the end of our neighbors driveway. It stunned me. I had no ide
