2、Elizabeth Dickens who had 8 children and Charles was the second to oldest child out of all of them.nAfter he was born,his family moved to Chatham.nDickens described his years living there“the happiest time of his childhood.”nHis parents were always free spirited and spending money on parties and bal

4、s were always a concern for the Dickens family.nBecause of their financial problems,they later had to move to a smaller house when Charles was just 4 months old.nThe Dickens family was considered middle-class,but for only a short time because they hit financial problems which,in 1824,caused them to
5、be imprisoned for debt.nTo pay off the debt,Charles father pulled him out of school to work in a shoe-die factory.nCharles considered this experience to be,“the most terrible of his life.”nBut,most of his harsh experiences influenced him to write his best novels.=nCharles parents also saved as much

11、nd essays for periodicals.nLater,he started providing writings for comics(how he got his skill in adding a little humor in his stories like Great Expectations)which,in 1836,were published as the Pickwick Papers.nWith this,Dickens became,within a month,internationally popular.nAfter a while,Dickens r
12、esigned from making comics and writing newspaper reports to become an editor of a monthly magazine called Bentleys Miscellany.nIronically,Dickens probably used this magazine name for Bentley Drummle in Great Expectations.Dickens Continues To WorknHis success as a novelist continued,Nicholas Nickleby
