2、ur government,with no exception,regard it as“the soul of our nation.”What，however，can we benefit from it？First of all，invention or innovation can enhance overall national economy，which is important to heighten our nation status in the world.Additionally，if factories have the abilities in invention，t
3、he factories will be booming.As a result，they can provide our people with more jobs and it will make our nation more stable.What is more，a majority of new products may be viable through invention.Therefore，it is also significant factor for improving our living standards.Owing to such benefits，no won
4、der more and more countries focus on invention today.Recognizing its importance is only the fist step to advocate invention or innovation，and some effective measures should be taken for it.For one thing，our authority should continue to enlarge the recruit of graduate.For another,the conditions of sc
5、ientists and skilled workers should be further improved.Only in this way，can“the soul of our nation”be fully embodied and our nation have a brighter future.The Development of Internet Internet is becoming more and more popular in the world.As is shown in the pictures，two persons are sitting in front
6、 of their own computer in different places.They seem to be very happy owing to the accession to Internet.We can see clearly that the left fellow types a message and sends it to the right one，the message says：“David，would you have a coffee tonight？”the right one receives it and quickly replies：“sure，
7、where？”What a convenient tool of Internet is！With the rapid development of high technologies and economy，people will get more and more benefits from the use of internet.There is no denying that computer network is an indication of social civilization and progress.internet is an information pool，peop
8、le can search anything they want by typing the key words.For example，someone wants to know the Great Wall of China，what he/she need to do is only to open an internet explorer and type the words：“the Great Wall”and search it，then he/she can get so many relevant links.Whats more，people can purchase th
9、eir favorite goods through the Internet instead of going shopping in chaotic streets.Last but not least，people also can make full use of Internet to study online.From the analysis made above，we can come to a conclusion that we should make the best use of Internet，which can brings us a great deal of
10、benefits.as a citizen of China we should study hard.Only in this way Can we have a brighter future and make our country flourishing。Young Adults Self-supporting As an adult student,I am planning to pursue graduate studies by study strategy.My arrangement consists of two steps:First,I shall go throug
11、h my first two year courses by both winning scholarships with excellent academic achievements and taking part-time jobs,such as campus work,teaching assistant,private teacher,etc.Then,Ill interrupt my regular course to work for a certain organization or company for one or two years.This I shall do f
12、or the double purpose of saving enough money for further education and getting some knowledge of social conditions,which may help to turn my book learning into something practical.When I resume my graduate studies a year or two later,I shall finish my program with a both creative and practical thesi

14、sented.The picture is simple and its meaning is clear:young adults should manage to finance themselves for their higher education rather than rely on their families for support whether they can afford or not.The market economy and competitive society prompt most young people to drive themselves vigo
15、rously studying for higher academic degrees,and some of them are seeking opportunities to study abroad.However,great expense hampers their desire for higher studies.In overcoming the financial obstacle,self-reliance is most advisable while dependence on parents or relatives is shameful.Employment an
16、d Female Equality I was profoundly shocked by what I have seen in this picture.As is shown in the picture,employers are particular about the female applicants for vacancies.They have extra requirements that women job seekers should be young and beautiful,but ironical ly,they only offer the low-payin
17、g positions without retirement pension,welfares,and weekends.What is revealed in this picture is a prevalent phenomenon in contemporary society.Some employers set very high standards for their female employees who must be not only qualified in education,but also outstanding in personal appearance.Th
18、erefore,it is not strange to hear reports about female graduates from famous universities failing to find a job because of the prejudices and the high standard held by the employers.Then what can we do to tackle this problem?One of the solutions,in my opinion,is that a positive attitude should be cr
19、eated in society towards female applicants.Women can over perform men in many aspects such as carefulness,patience,delicacy.On the other hand,female employers also should have confidence and the firm belief that if they are really,they can surely find a satisfactory job despite all the prejudices.Mo
20、ral Decline In the thought-provoking picture,a young man is sitting on the chair in an bus that is allocated specially for the old,the weak,the pregnant,the disabled,children and the like.Regrettably,he simply neglects the pregnant lady standing just beside him with great efforts.The scene will set
21、ordinary citizens to think seriously about the nations painfully declining moral climate.Some of this can be attributed to the lack of morality,a problem shown particularly in the younger generation.Their sense of moral standards seems to be withering although their material comforts have been consi
22、derably enhanced.What makes matters even worse is the fact that such misdeeds as spitting,picking flowers in public gardens or making noises in public places are becoming so pervasive that they are likely to be taken for granted by the public.With todays worsening morality,social bonds have been wea
23、kened,replaced by a greater emphasis on self.Thats why new ideas must come forward to improve the nations moral climate though the challenge cannot be underestimated.Moral decline will not be reversed until we find new ways to improve our moral standards.For adults,we can make use of every chance to
24、 remind young people of the importance of good manners,both as a competent citizen in modern society and as a model for them to follow.Only in this way can the moral climate of our nation be improved,and we sincerely wish that the young man in the picture could realize that he has sit on a“wrong”sea
25、t.Free Blood Donation As is obviously revealed in the bar chart above,over the past seven years(19982004),the proportion of free blood donation in clinical blood collection has been climbing and rocketed to over seventy percent in 2004,which is a welcome development to our whole society.The implied
26、meaning of the bar chart above can be illustrated as follows.To begin with,the increasing percentage indicates that great changes have taken place in terms of peoples spiritual civilization.Most people want to make contribution to our society in one way or another,which is a way to realize self-valu
27、e.The spirit of selflessness is more pervasive than ever before.Whats more,the statistics betray that modern people,especially the young,have a better understanding of medical knowledge.Most people have abandoned their old idea that blood donation is most harmful to human body.In one word,our spirit
28、ual progress and rich medical knowledge have resulted in such a positive result.In my view,effective measures should be taken to encourage free blood donation.First of all,a nation-wide education campaign should be launched to spread the necessity and knowledge of free blood donation.Besides,laws sh
29、ould be set up to protect those who donate blood.Only in this way can we create a harmonious and healthy society.v The Changes in College Students Ways of Spending Vacations As is clearly shown by the two pie charts,from 1980 to 2004 the students who go traveling and do social practices during vacat
30、ions increase greatly while those who stay at home decrease a lot.For instance,in 1980,only 9%of the students took advantage of their vacation time to do social practice,but its percentage has been more than tripled in 2004.Obviously,great changes have taken place in the way that college students sp
31、end their vacations.Considering these changes,we can find there are possibly three main reasons.Firstly,with the fast development of economy,many people have become rich,which makes it possible for more students to go traveling.Most parents tend to support their children to travel financially.Second
32、ly,the reason lies in the fact that the boom of tourism has made traveling attractive and,also,modern transportation has made it easier for students to go out to travel.The travel agencies not only provide historic sightseeing but also cultural as well as educational tour around China.What is more i
33、mportant,the fast changing society has raised higher requirements for college graduates.The authorities of Chinese university or college have been encouraging their students to do social practices in the hope that college students would broaden their view to know more about the society and become mo
34、re adaptable to the future work after they graduate.Therefore,more students go out traveling or doing social practices during the vacations.As a college student,I think the charts reflect the exciting progress on the college students thinking patterns.We have become much mature to realize how to spe
35、nd our vacations meaningfully and practically.Form the changes in the charts,it is easy for us to predict that more and more college students will walk out their home and throw themselves into more various vacation activities.Responsibility As is vividly revealed in the series of drawings above,a ma
36、n has to go to four hospitals to confirm his health condition due to the irresponsibility of medical units,which seems to be humorous and funny but is most thought-provoking on second thoughts.The aim of the painter of the drawings can be briefed as follows.To begin with,the irresponsibility in some
37、 working units can no longer be ignored by us.Accidents of various kinds resulting from irresponsibility happen more frequently than ever before.Coal mine accidents and medical accidents reported by the media are the cases in point.In the international communication,our irresponsibility has spoiled
38、the credibility and image of our country.Responsibility does means a lot to us.Whats more,the irresponsibility of some working units should be regarded as social malignant tumor.At present the grim status contradicts our efforts to build up a harmonious society.The irresponsibility spells us heavy p
39、hysical and psychological burden.And most often,the people who are frequently mistreated with irresponsibility will develop deep hatred for our society.In one word,the irresponsibility must be removed because it hinders the progress of our society.In my view,concrete and effective measures must be t
40、aken to get rid of the phenomenon of irresponsibility.On the one hand,laws and regulations must be established to stop the existing irresponsibility.On the other hand,the importance of responsibility should be widely spread to make every citizen honor the sense of responsibility.Only in this way can
41、 we live in a safe and harmonious society.Personality As is vividly betrayed in the drawing above,all the people are advocating individualism which is highly valued by most people who are living in our modern society.This drawing mirrors a reality in our society,which should arouse our social concer
42、n.The implied meaning of the drawing can be illustrated as follows.To begin with,the overemphasizing of individualism is detrimental to our society.Since we are living in a social environment,we should attach equal importance to both individualism and co-operation.Otherwise,our society can not keep
43、balance and will stop developing.Whats more individualism sometimes must come second.Many significant projects,such as bridge building,rocket launching and so forth in our society,must be conducted by way of co-operation.If we always take individualism as the priority no matter what we are engaged i
44、n,our social progress is bound to be hindered,which will do harm to the development of human civilization.Counter-measures must be taken to curb the prevailing trend so as to return people a harmonious living and working environment.Most importantly,we must realize that we cannot survive without our
45、 dependence on the society and understand the importance of co-operation.Pressure The set of pictures present in front of us a sharp contrast between two different kinds of attitudes people hold in the face of stressful events.The former type is always staying away from some misfortunes or crises,tr
46、ying to desperately“fly”when confronted with difficulties,but individuals of the latter type optimistically“fight”against such events,sure that they will be in control of their own destiny.Indeed,we should act on the values of optimism.The pessimist invariably takes a passive“fight”in the face of ad
47、versities.He feels like fates plaything and moves slowly.He doesnt seek advice,assuming that nothing can be done when he is in difficulty or in distress.many studies suggest that the pessimists feeling of helplessness undermines the bodys natural defenses,the immune system.Feeling passive and unable
48、 to dodge lifes blows,he expects ill health and other misfortunes,no matter what he does.On the contrary,optimists will feel in control of their own life.If something is going wrong,an optimist acts quickly,reaching out for advice,forming a new plan of action,and looking for solutions.He will think
49、that he is much better than the facts would justify and more often than not,that is what keeps him alive and active,as evidenced in many successful medical treatments.He actually recognizes that stress is nothing but a natural part of his routine life.Sure enough,what determines our choice between“f
50、lying”or“fighting”will be our attitudes towards life,not the stress itself.If we hold an optimistic attitude,we can change our life for the better.Very few can come through distressful periods with more physical and mental vigor than they had before.We should also know that a long time with no“fight
