1、1. keep /ki:p/【词义】v保持；保留【用法】(1)当“保持”讲时，常用于结构keep (sb/sth) + adj。如: We should excise more to keep healthy.我们应该多锻炼以保持健康。She always keeps her hair short.她总是留着短发。The noise kept me awake all night.噪音吵得我一晚上没睡着。(2)当“保留；保存”讲。如：She kept the ring for a long time.这个戒指她保存了很长时间。His books are kept upstairs.他的书藏在楼
2、上。keep也可以指把东西“留给”别人，即自己不要了，给了别人了。如：You can keep the umbrella if you like it.如果你喜欢的话，这把雨伞给你了。Keep the change.别找零钱了。(3)当“履行(诺言等)；遵守(惯例等)”讲时，常见的表述有keep a promise (信守诺言)，keep one s word (遵守承诺；说话算话)等。如：We must keep the rules so that we don t get into trouble.我们必须遵守规章制度，这样就不会惹麻烦。We Chinese people always k
3、eep our words.我们中国人总是说话算数的。【辨析】keep doing keep on doing两者的意思较接近，keep doing强调动作的连续 不断，意为“一直/不断/坚持/继续做某事“。如： He kept running for an hour. 他持续跑了一个小时。She kept sleeping until noon.她一直睡到中午。The students kept talking until the teacher came in.学生一直在说话，直到老师进来。keep on doing强调动作的反复性，中间有间隔， 意为“反复做某事”。如：I kept on
