3、icturePlotIn 1841,Solomon Northup was a free African American man working as a violinist,having his family.Two men took him to Washington D.C.and drug him so as to sell him intoslavery.Northup was renamed and beaten repeatedly,he is ultimately purchased by plantation owner,William Ford,who is relati
4、vely better.Northup engineered a waterway for transporting logs swiftly.But over-seer John Tibeats resents Northup and begins verbally harassing him.Ford sell Northup to Edwin Epps in order to pay a debt.Epps believed his right to abuse his slaves arebiblically sanctioned.Patsey worked hard and was
5、praised lavishly by Epps.He also repeatedly rapes her,and seems to fall in love with her against his better judgement.Epps wife is envious of Patsey and frequently humiliates and attacks her.Sometime later,he owed a plague to the new slaves,leasing them to a neighboring plantation for the season whe
6、re Northup was allowed to play the violin at a celebration.Returning to Epps,Northup gave all the saved money to Armsby in order to mail a letter to his friends,but being betrayed.Because being know by Epps,he tearfully burn the letter,his only hope of freedom.Northup begins working on the construct
7、ion of agazebowith Bass,who earned Epps displeasure by expressing his opposition to slavery.One day,Epps enraged after discovering Patsey missing from his plantation.When she returns,she revealed her getting a soap bar from Mistress Shaw,because she was sick from being forbidden soap by Mrs.But Epps
8、 didnt believe her and had her stripped and tied to a post.Mrs.encouraged Epps to force Northup to whip Patsey.Eventually,she took the whip away,savagely lashing her.Northup asked Bass for help in getting a letter and Bass risked his life to agree.One day,Northup was called over by the local sheriff
9、,who arrives in a carriage with another man.He asked Northup a series of questions to confirm his answers that match the facts of his life in New York.Northup recognizeed the sheriffs companion as a shopkeeper he knows from Saratoga.The man had come to free him.Though Epps angrily resists and Patsey
10、 is distraught,Northup leaves immediately.After being enslaved for 12 years,Northup was restored to freedom and returned to his family.As he walks into his home,he sees his whole family,including his daughter,who presents him with his grandson and namesake.Concluding credits recount the inability of
