13、e peak moments of their life,that time they drank tequila and went parasailing in Mexico.So people wind upcomparing the highlights of their friends lives to their own day-to-day life,and thenbecause of the social comparison theyre doing,they wind up feeling depressed and3having lower self-esteem.4.S
14、o does all this mean that social media is bad?Should we all dump our Facebook,Instagram and Twitter accounts immediately,if not sooner?Well,hold on a secondthere.You see,all of these social media sites are nothing but tools.Think of a hammer.Hammer is a brilliant tool.You can use it to build and cre
15、ate things,but you can alsouse it to beat yourself in the head with it.Facebook is a lot like that.You can useFacebook to keep up with people that live far away,in my case,sometimes withfriends on the other side of the world.You can also use it to compare yourselfnegatively through the competitive m
16、indset.Thats when the tool begins to hinderyour life instead of helping it.5.The fact is dumping your Facebook account isnt going to fix the root of thisproblem,because even if youre no longer on social media,if you have a competitivemindset,youre just going to compare yourself socially to people in
17、 the real world.The solution to this competitive mindset is to begin to understand what a human lifeactually is,that were all in this together and that we all suffer.We all lose people wecare about.We all have problems.Were all ill sometimes.We all have things thatbother us,and yes sometimes we all
18、have low self-esteem.Every single person on thisplanet deals with some of these basic human issues.When you see that your friendshave that,just like you do,then you can stop comparing yourself to them unfavorably.The fact is just because you dont see someone else experiencing the same issues thatyou
19、 have doesnt mean that their life is perfect.You can bet that they do haveproblems,just maybe not the problems that you have.6.So,having a more realistic and frankly less narcissistic view of your friends andthe world around you is the way to solve the Facebook depression problem.If youwant to be a
20、competitor and achieve things in the world,thats fantastic.Just dontcompete socially to try to be your friends and neighbors.Youre not them.Youre you.Take advantage of your strengths and your resources and let them be who they are.Your real power is always in being authentic.Thats where youre going

22、rs at the University of Pittsburghs School ofMedicine.They found that young people who often use social media are more likely tosuffer from sleep disorders than those who use social media less.The researchers saydoctors should ask young adults about their use of social media when treating sleepissue
23、s.This is one of the first pieces of evidence that social media use really can impactyour sleep,said Jessica C.Levenson.She is a postdoctoral researcher in theuniversitys Department of Psychiatry.She was the lead author of a report on thestudy.The researchers set out to examine the connection betwee

25、dy,theygave questionnaires to nearly 1,800 adults,aged 19 to 32.On average,members of the study group used social media sites one hour a day.Theyalso visited various social media accounts 30 times per week.Thirty percent of the studys participants reported having serious problems withsleeping.Those
