14、摘要的四要素：（1）点明主题，以及本研究的目的及重要性；（2）介绍主要内容，使读者迅速了解论文的概貌；（3）获得的基本结论和研究成果，突出论文的新见解; （4）结论或结果的意义。中文摘要应避免使用“拟、将”这样的字眼。英文摘要应遵循以下规则：1) 英文摘要的时态。 英文摘要时态的运用以简练为佳，常用一般现在时、一般过去时，少用现在完成时、过去完成时，进行时态和其他复合时态基本不用。A. 一般现在时。用于说明研究目的、叙述研究内容、描述结果、得出结论、提出建议或讨论等。例如： This study (investigation) is (conducted, undertaken) to ， T

27、放入引号，而且必须跟原词保持词性的一致。汉语例词不能斜体，放入引号即可。无论是哪一种，整个论文中要统一，不能一会儿斜体，一会儿引号的。4、单列出的例句要整篇论文统一编号（圈1，圈2或括号1，括号2），格式要统一，句前空4格。括号后空一格。不用斜体。5、英文标点后必须打一空格。6、引用必须标明出处。和后面的参考文献对应，全文中必须有几处引用，不可整篇论文一个引用没有。7、举例时两个词之间用的短横，应该是英文的破折号，而不是连字符。破折号的输入方法是：两个连字符后加一空格，再接着打后面的字母，前面就自动变成破折号了。不许连着打三个或四个连字符。也可以插入-符号-破折号。8、for example后

The Puritan punishment of sexual sin becomes the vehicle for his best novel The Scarlet Letter. This novel enjoys high prestige among the romantic novels and is generally looked on as Ha
30、wthornes masterpiece and the most representative work. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne develops a type of Romanticism through the use of symbols. One of the symbols is the letter “A”, which is used to entitle the novel. The story begins with “A”, ends with “A”, “A” is the main thread that links the
31、 whole story. It coexists with the rising and falling of their fate. In this novel, “A” is not only a specific symbolic object but also the reflection of the authors thought. It shows the authors profound ideas towards the social morality and life. It is different symbols of different things to diff

In such an envir
37、onment, peoples thought is dominated by Puritanism. Hester Prynne, the young lady who was tall, with a figure of perfect elegance on a large scale, is discovered of the sin of adultery. She does not reveal the name of her childs father. In accordance with the current Puritan moral law, she is senten
38、ced to an unusual punishment of wearing the scarlet letter “A”, which stands for adultery on her bosom the rest of her life. So she is ridiculed and humiliated by the whole society for her sin. As it is described in Chapter Two, when Hester Prynne is brought from jail toe the towns public square, al
39、l the people, men and woman, old and young are talking about her symbol of shame, the scarlet letter and cursing her sin. She perchance undergoes an agony from every footstep of those thronged to see her, as if her heart has been flung into the street for them all to spurn and trample upon. Then she
40、 is punished to stand on the platform of the scaffold, with a symbol of shame of the scarlet letter “A” on her bosom, with spectators all around her, with infamy threatens lingering to her ears? Even at that moment, she does not tell whom her lover is. “I might endure his agony, as well as mine.”Fro
41、m then on, Hester Prynne has to keep herself aloof from the society. She moves to a small cottage on the outskirt of the town and lives with her child alone. The treatment of Hester reaches a low point. She is tormented with the letter which she endures all the time. The torture comes not only from
42、the outer society, but also form her daughter. Sometimes the infant puts up her little hand grasping at the letter. Hester would gasp for breath, clutched the fatal token, instinctively endeavors to tear it away, so infinite is the torture inflicted by the intelligent touch of Pearls baby-hand. Hest
43、er has never felt a moments safety except when the child is asleep. Chillingworth visits Hester after she is returned to the prison. He tells her that he will find out who the man was, and he will read the truth on the mans heart. Chillingworth then forces her to promise never to reveal his true ide
44、ntity as her cuckolded husband.2.1.2 The Character of FlameHester moves into a cottage bordering the woods. She and Pearl live there in relative solitude. Hester earns her money by doing stitchwork for local dignitaries, but she often spends her time helping the poor and sick. Pearl grows up to be w
45、ild, even refusing to obey her mother.Roger Chillingworth earns a reputation as a good physician. He uses his reputation to get transferred into the same home as Arthur Dimmesdale, an ailing minister.
