In the Listening and Speaking section, you will learn how to make a decision and express optimism. In the Reading and Writing section, Text A, written by the

2、 world-famous basketball star Michael Jordan, tells how the writer set and achieved his goals, while Text B has its focus on enthusiasm and success, and Practical Reading is a local weather forecast for Oklahoma City in the U.S.,prev.,. Objectives,After studying this unit, the students are expected

3、to be able to,1. master the basic language and skills necessary to express determination and optimism; 2. understand the main ideas of Texts A and B, and master the useful sentence structures and words and expressions found in the exercises relevant to the first two texts; 3. grasp the basic uses of

4、 the infinitive; 4. know how to write a note asking for a leave of absence; 5. read a local weather forecast for Oklahoma City in the U.S.; 6. guess the meaning of unknown words through word formation.,Obj.,. 5、p.1,The teacher begin with the Preview to make sure that the students have a general idea of what this unit is about. After that, the teacher activates the Listening and Speaking exercises as follows.,2 periods,Preview,Time,Contents,Plan,1) The Language for Expressing Determination and Optimism,Have

6、 a warm-up activity by asking students how to express themselves if they want to tell others of their determination and optimism;,A.,s.t.p.1,Listening and Speaking,B.,Have the students listen to Ex.1 (2-3 times) and fill in the blanks with the missing words;,C.,Ask one student to read aloud the talk
