1、The Influence of Cultural Globalization on ChinaI. IntroductionWith the development of world economy and technology, the world is becoming a mutually connected and dependent web system. This is so called globalization. “Globalization is sometimes interpreted or presented as a trend resulting from te
2、chnological innovations, and certainly such innovation has fuelled globalization process” (Michie 3). Thus from culture to economy, from politics to law, nearly all these fields are involved in this system. Globalization has become an overwhelming trend in the world, from the culture point of view, i
3、t is cultural globalization. Cultural globalization has not a certain definition. Technology has now created the possibility of global culture. The Internet, fax, satellite, and cable TV are sweeping away cultural boundaries. Cultural globalization symbolizes that the world culture has entered into
4、a new phase. It is a trend which in the process of capital expanding, the world is linked into one tight combination, every countrys culture in the world would touch, conflict, intercourse, assimilate, and merge. It promotes integration and removes not only the cultural barriers but also the negativ
5、e dimensions of culture. It is a vital step towards a more stable world and better lives for the people in it. As the increasing of the social exchange, culture is no longer confined in one nation or state. This makes human beings overstep the confines of districts or nations. As the largest develop

The positive aspects refer to that the cultural globalization provides the opportunity for China to introduce the foreign advanced culture, at the same time, Chinese cultu

So the negative aspects lie in that the cultural globalization deepens the culture gap between the prosperous areas and t

The Opportunity for China in Cultural GlobalizationThe aggressive spread of market economy and communication technology, which
9、is often under the control of western multinationals, brings new chances to the local culture and values of China. Sometimes it seems as if a tidal wave is creeping across the globe. “The cultures of all countries and regions interact and integrate to form a united whole”(Tomlinson 21). Cultural glo
10、balization brings new opportunities for the cultures of each nation to mingle in creative ways. It also provides us a rare historic chance to catch up with the developed countries. Obviously, China is in this interrelated and interdependent system. A. To Learn Foreign Advanced CultureChina is a coun
11、try with a long history and cultural tradition. Since the founding of the PRC in 1949, the Chinese government has established the socialist culture in the dominant position. During the Cultural Revolution, the socialist culture of China experienced a deep crisis. It brought the Chinese government to
12、 adopt the reform and opening-up policies after 1978, which concerned both economic and cultural areas. The new policies, however, dont mean to shake the dominant position of socialist culture in China. As a matter of fact, The Chinese government spares no effort to consolidate the dominant position
13、 of socialist culture.Since the reform and opening up of China, the transformation of economic system has brought the division and reorganization of interests in our society; it has caused considerable changes in economy, politics, culture, and other fields of peoples life, especially in culture. Th

The world culture resources would spread all over the world and the opportunity would com

Some concepts and ideas such as law, science, democracy, and innovation are introduced from the foreign countries. If it seems that life in the West become a fast-forwar

A recent survey of 12 major cities showed that 97 percent of the respondents had televisions and 88 percent had refrigerators and washing machines. An
17、other study reveals that farmers are eating 48 percent more meat each year and 400 percent more fruit. Shanghai as one of the largest city in China has long been open to the West, in a decade scores of gleaming new skyscrapers have shot up to crowd and jostle the skyline, cramp the narrow wilding st

In “The Year of France in China”, France presents diverse expressions of French culture to China, especially various art forms
19、such as oil painting, sketch woodcut, sculpture and even drama. The exhibition has given artistic enjoyment to the Chinese art lovers and enhances their understanding of the French culture. At the same time it provided a valuable learning opportunity to meet the French culture in a spirit of sharing
20、 and dialogue. It is the second part of the France-China Exchange Years organized on the initiative of the presidents of the two countries. It is helpful for the two countries to develop a global partnership. Also “The Year of France in China” could increase the mutual understanding of both countrie

In the process of cultural globalization, we are able to make more and better use of foreign advanced culture so as to speed up the cultural developme

To Export the Chinese Culture On the one hand, foreign advanced culture is introducing to China gradually, on the other hand, China also is making contributions to the world in many aspects, certainly including culture ones. As we learn the external cultures, we may export the Chinese
23、 culture to the outside world, because in the era of multicultural interaction and coexistence, Chinese culture not only keeps the blooming vitality, but also becomes part of the worlds wealth, it also promotes different cultures to contact and interchange. China has a very long history and a large
24、amount of splendid culture, which dated back to the ancient times. Chinese culture has made tremendous contributions to the civilization of the mankind. We know this year is “The Year of China in Russia”. The Chinese President HuJintao took part in the opening ceremony of the Chinese National Exhibi

Once he addressed that the exhibition, which was one of the most significant events to be held during “The Year of China in Russia”, have shown the splendid culture and history of China, and also have reflected the achievements and successes of Ch

Therefore culture promotes the cooperation in various fields and strengthens the people to people contact between the countries and furt

In “The Year of France in China”, it also provided a valuable learning opportunity to meet the two countries to develop a global partnership and increase the mutual understanding of both countries and introduce the cines culture to Fr

All of this proved that all human civilization should be shared among each nation, it is necessary for Chinese people to introduce the Chinese cultural values to the outside world. Meanwhile, more and more foreigners begin to know
29、the excellent Chinese culture. C. To Abandon the Outmoded Culture During the five thousand years, some kinds of culture still exist that are no longer useful for our country development, and we call them dross, such as the feudal superstition. To some extent the feudal survivals are prevailing in ma
30、ny places of our country, the broad existence of them plays a widespread negative inertia on our socialist modernization. If they do no harm to the socialist culture of China, the Chinese government will tolerate them; if they are conflicting with the socialist culture of China, the Chinese governme
31、nt will try to eliminate their influence as much as possible. The socialist culture is considered the core of cultural rights by Chinese leaders. They will defend this cultural right under any circumstances. In the new century, some of the feudal survivals even bind peoples mentality. Therefore, it
32、is the necessary and urgent task to clean them up, clearing them away on the one hand can help us to carry out the political system reform as well as social political reform, and on the other hand it helps to establish the spiritual civilization and promote the social coordinate development.China is
33、 the largest developing country in the world and it has different national conditions from other nations. As the cultural intercourse become more and more extensive and frequent, some opinions in our mind have been found to be outmoded. For instance, the word “modest”, one of its meanings is “having
34、 or showing a moderate estimation of ones own talents, abilities, and values.” As Chinese, we should inherit and transform the tradition into the principle of relations in the family, but it is not proper when we have an interview in the transnational corporation. For instance, when the foreign mana
35、ger asks about your capability, as the interviewee if we are too modest and say, “ I am afraid, it is a bit difficult, maybe beyond my ability, my skill is just so” Most of the time you will lose the job, because the manager will think you lack courage and confidence. But people in the past, when they bought clothes, they thought that how long will it last, now sexy, beautiful, tasteful are popular. Chi

The Challenge to China in Cultural GlobalizationInformation technology, as the driving force of economic gl
38、obalization, has become a veritable instrument for propagating western culture. The decision of Chinese government to join the World Trade Organization marks the Chinese market completely falling in line with the international market. Perhaps by far the most important far-reaching effect of cultural
39、 globalization is the commercialization of culture. A large number of commodities, which come from developed countries, are going into the Chinese market. So language, religion, political system, social customs, even ideological color have been manifested. This would create some problems for peoples
40、 choices and social solidarity.A. The Imbalance of Chinese Cultural Development Due to the lack of a just and equitable international economic order, the influence of cultural globalization on countries at different stages of development is entirely different. The dividends derived from cultural glo
41、balization are not fairly distributed. The developed countries have apparent advantages in capital, technology, human resources and administrative expertise and in setting the rules of the game. They are usually the most active propellers and the biggest beneficiaries of cultural globalization. The
42、developing countries on the other hand are on the whole in an unfavorably position. Developing countries can obtain some foreign investment, advanced technologies and management expertise, but at the same time they are the most vulnerable to the negative impacts of cultural globalization and lack th
43、e ability to effectively fend off and reduce the risks and pitfalls that come along with cultural globalization. Thanks to the initiation of reform and opening up to the outside world, China has made great achievements in many fields of our life, but we should not forget that in some remote areas th
44、e overall level of productive force is still relatively low, as a result the cultural development in some regions of our country is not balanced. From the region perspective, culture always goes into the areas in which the economy is relatively developed. On the contrary, culture would permeate slow
45、ly in these areas whose economy developed more slowly. With the rapid development of economy, more and more foreign culture is introduced to the flourishing areas. The gap between the two types of districts may become wide, this phenomenon is likely to cause abnormal development of regional culture,
46、 and it indeed widens the social disparity of our country. In the 1990s, especially in recent years, the gap between the North and the South has further widened. The economic sovereignty and economic security of the developing countries are confronted with enormous pressure and stern challenges. Som
47、e least-developed countries are even on the brink of being marginalized by globalization. Therefore, in participation of globalization, developing countries should always be on alert and try by all means to exploit the advantages and avoid all kinds of risk and harm.B. Threat to the Chinese Traditio
48、nal Culture The cultural globalization accompanying with the economic globalization inevitably arouses collision and conflict of ideas between Chinese traditional culture and western culture. In recent years, western culture has spread all over the world, and some tremendous changes have taken place
49、 in peoples life. Many aspects of Chinese culture, from language, political system, modes of production to customs, values, family structure, entertainment, even costume, have changed a lot. Individuals from all walks of life can sense the impact of international changes, people can see and hear the changes in the media, taste in the food, and sense it in the products that people buy. Nowadays, the traditional culture as a spontaneous and integral part of peoples life has being eroded. Not everyone is happy a
