1、The Application of EnglishCoaching Newspaper in Enhancement of English Reading Abstract: This paper attempts to discuss how to enhance English reading ability from the aspect of applying the English coaching newspaper to the learning process of English by meticulously selecting many fresh examples.

2、The author puts forward using English coaching newspaper actively when the teachers teach. It concludes that application of newspaper is a very effective way to improve the level of English reading. The research is of great significance to English teaching. 3、g newspaper;Enhancement 英语辅导报在提高阅读能力中的应用 摘 要:本文从在英语学习过程中运用英语辅导报的角度试图论述怎样提高阅读能力,引用了许多生动的例子。作者提出了在英语教学过程中应积极运用英语辅导报,发挥其辅助作用。得出了运用报纸是提高英语阅读能力的一个有效方法。本研究对英语教学具有重要的意义。 关键词:英语阅读;英语辅导报;提高 IntroductionWith the development of society, English plays a more and more important role. Reading, as a receptive lang

4、uage process, is often the chief means for the language learners in countries where English the taught as a foreign language or a second language. It is the aim and also the utmost important method of foreign language learning. During the process of learning, besides learning from the textbook, it i

5、s of great significance to learn some supplementary reading material selection. Many researchers and experts have so far made great contributions in this area by experimenting and proposing many practical methods. Although an agreement on the appropriate supplementary materials is hard to reach, one

6、 point has been commonly accepted that reading materials should provide the reads with sufficient and new information relevant to their reading goals. This paper aims to prove that the application of English coaching newspaper is effective in promoting students learning interest and improving their

7、reading skills or even their overall English level. This paper are divided into three parts, the first part discusses some basic knowledge about reading, then the second part deals with the features, functions, advantages of English coaching newspaper. The last part talks about the limitations of th

8、e study and some suggestion. 1 Basic knowledge about readingReading is not just to choose a piece of newspaper or a magazine, and then let students read by themselves. How to use it properly is not easy. They have to be familiarized with lots of knowledge about reading comprehension. Such knowledge

9、can be lead them to their everyday teaching. In this chapter, the author will introduce some basic knowledge of reading comprehension, such as the definition, the process, the reading strategies and so on.1.1 Definition of readingFor many years, three basic definitions of reading have driven literac

10、y programs in the United States. “According to the first definition, learning to read means learning to pronounce words. According to the second definition, learning to read means learning to identify words and get their meaning. According to the third definition, learning to read means learning to

11、bring meaning to a text in order to get meaning from it” 1. Although these definitions reflect long-standing views of reading, current literacy research supports a more comprehensive definition of reading. This new definition includes all of the above definitions and places learning skills in the co

12、ntext of authentic reading and writing activities. It recognizes the importance of skill instruction as one piece of the reading process. It also supports balanced reading instruction for all students1.2 Strategies of readingReading strategies are very important, when the readers are trying to get t

13、he meaning of the reading materials. The essence of teaching reading is to instruct learners to master the reading skills and strategies rather than the meaning and context or analyze the language structure. So if the students can get the strategies, it will help them gain the competitive edge.1. Ha

14、ving a purpose: It is vital for students to have a clear purpose and to keep in mind what they want to get from what they are reading.2. Skimming: Looking quickly through a text in order to get the main idea of the text.3. Scanning: Looking quickly through a text in order to locate specific informat

15、ion.4. Reviewing: Conducting a quick survey of the text to identify the topic, the main idea, and the organization of the text.5.6. Identify genres: Identify the overall organizational pattern of the text.7. Identify paragraph structure: Identifying the organizational structure of a paragraph.8. Ide

16、ntifying sentence structure.9. Noticing cohesive devices: Identifying the subject and maintain verb in complex sentences. Assigning correct referents to pronouns, and identifying the function of conjuctions.10. Inferring unknown vocabulary :Using context as well as the words of the context to guess

17、the meaning of the new words11. Using background knowledge: Using what you have known to help you understand the new ideas.12. Identifying the style and purpose: Understanding the writers purpose in using different stylistic devices, such as long or short sentences.13. Integrating information: Track

18、ing ideas that are developed across the text through.1.3 Significance of readingReading is one of most treasured human gifts. It is also one of the most complicated skills with which we develop strong second language fluency. The role of reading to reinforce other language skills is important to lan

19、guage learning is generally recognized and widely accepted.“The best way to improve your knowledge of a foreign language is to go and live among the speakers, the next way is to read extensively in it” 2. Reading is the most important skill to master, so the ability to read is recognized in society

20、and in the schools as one of the most important objectives of English language study.2 General introduction of English coaching newspaperAs we move into the information age, things change rapidly and it reflects up-to-date usage in language and provides popular topics for thought and discussion. So

21、newspapers are becoming more and more important as a tool for education, especially in language teaching and have a good knowledge of current affairs. English coaching newspaper is one of varied newspapers. And it keep up with the changes in china even in the world.2.1 Contents of English coaching n

22、ewspaperEnglish coaching newspaper is about English education devoted to improving the use of English and the understanding of current affairs. In addition to some easy materials, it also provides the readers with the up-to-date reports in business, sports, daily life, science and technology as well

23、 as social affairs in china and across the world.English coaching newspaper also has some interesting games about English ,which will inspire the students learning interests. And it also provides something related to the college entrance examination, which can help students a lot if they can use it

24、properly.2. 2 Advantages of English coaching newspaper The advantage of using English coaching newspaper can be summarized as follows: first of all, it can provide learners with up-date and authentic information. Articles taken from current issues of English coaching newspaper suit the leaners purpo

25、se by presenting them with up-to-date linguistic date, the information of the current development in science, technology, social life and word affairs which are the focuses of public attention. It is very timely , Its a constant source of information not like the textbooks which take a year to two f

26、rom manuscript to product. The readers of English newspaper are thus enabled to learn latest language data, consolidate and develop skills of reading various types of text on all kinds of subjects, with the stylistic differences, meanwhile, they are also able to read for real-life purposes, such as,

27、 to keep themselves well informed of what is going on. The newspaper can help “bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world” 3, and therefore, have great potential to be made learner authentic and motivating if they are presented new and updating.In addition, it can stimulate the readers

28、curiosity and make learning fun. Not only do the materials make the readers devote themselves to the interesting news, but they enjoy the process of learning very much. It is very good to develop the method of learning the things that the students have a great interest, since it produces the high ef

29、ficiency.Furthermore, it can improve learners different language skills. Newspapers deal with what is current providing reading and discussion. If the teachers deal with teaching of English listening, reading, and writing. They need to have all of the skills. Newspapers can help teachers achieve the

30、 goal of getting students closer to the four areas. At last, it can reduce the gap between the classroom and the real world. Students have got used to learn from the textbook before they have the chance of reading newspaper ad a supplementary material. Since the introduction of the newspaper, they w

31、ill get more information about the real world, which will boost their great interests. Therefore, they are more willing to learn the things outside the classrooms.3 A experiment on the studentsIn order to prove the effectiveness of using newspaper, the author made an experiment among the students in

32、 high school. The students play a active role in the experiment, and through the experiment, the author get many accurate data to support that the newspaper is a very effective way to improve English reading. 3.1 Experiment on the studentsAccording the needs of the study, we have launched an experim

33、ent in two classes: class1 and class2. The students from class1 read the newspapers everyday for a month, and the students from class2 dont read the newspaper. One month later, we carry out the test, questionnaire and self-evaluation. The test was organized in two classes, it is designed to check wh

34、ether students who read the newspaper everyday for a month have made improvement or not. The questionnaire was designed to find out the views of the students on reading newspaper. Students were required to answer Question 1-10 by choosing the answers. The self-evaluation was meant to have knowledge

35、of their benefits from reading the newspaper.3.2 Principal findingsIn the study, we can draw the following conclusions, English newspaper reading meets the needs of the senior middle school students. It can enhance students interests and motivations to learn English, increase the vocabularies, impro

36、ve their reading skills as well as broaden their horizons and knowledge.Therefore, it is feasible and effective to improve he student reading comprehensive ability. It is very important for us to promote newspaper as the supplementary reading materials.3.3 Limitation and suggestion of the study Like

37、 all the studies, the present study has its own limitation. First of all, some questions were not designed very well, when the students make a choice between the answers, it is very probable to make a mistake, which will reduce the reliability of the study. Secondly, the number of the subjects was s

38、mall, it involved only two classes, therefore, the result is not so reliable. We hope those who are insisting on reading newspaper can continue to keep the good habit, and those who dont use it or use it only a little to have a try or expand its use. We are confident that the number of using newspap

39、er will be increased greatly.ConclusionThis paper attempts to promote the use of newspaper to enhance English reading. It has discussed some basic knowledge to lead the teachers to play a very active role when they put it in teaching. And then it deals with the contents, features, advantages of the

40、English coaching newspaper. To prove the effectiveness of using newspaper, the author has made an experiment among the students, and conclusions are made. From the investigation, it is concluded that it has a great potential for us to enhance the English comprehensive ability through English coachin

41、g newspaper. At the current information age, it is very important to train students to use newspaper and increase the English language proficiency. Using newspaper in education has been a very popular approach in the globe; using newspaper in high school remains a new topic of the study, and needs t
