1、Beauty is Innocent-Review of Helen of TroyHelen of Troy is one of my favorite movies which impressed me a lot. I still remember the discussion of comparing Daji in Shang and Helen in Troy during the class. One thing I should stress is that the two women are quite different from each other. Of course
2、, they are all very beautiful. Whats more, Daji was considered to have caused the breaking down of Shang Dynasty and Helen, the most beautiful woman in Greece, was well known for being the cause of the Trojan War. However, to speak frankly, I think unlike Daji who was aggressive and cruel, Helen is
3、totally innocent. In fact, it is mens lust that caused the terrible war not her.It is said that Helen is half divine because of her father Zeus and her mother Leda, who had been seduced by the god in the shape of a swan. In the movie, Helen is acted by Sienna Guillory. She is a real beauty. Her eyes
4、 look like pools of clear water or bright stars in the sky and her voice just like crystal sugar melting in the air. What is beauty? It is interesting to consider this question. In my opinion, the qualities of beauty should include truth, harmony, love, attractiveness and delight. These are qualitie
5、s that are supposed to be important in Greeks. In contrast, war is anything but beautiful. It is almost the opposite. Though Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty, she marries Ares, the god of war. It is as though these two opposites are warring for the attention of the souls who devote their
6、lives to this contest. For the Trojan War is not just a battle for Troy, it is a battle of the gods for life itself and the souls of those who live it. It is, in truth, a story about what life is about and how to make it worthwhile. The fact that a woman is the center of this story does not mean tha
7、t women are unimportant and secondary. In fact they are central to the whole scheme. But this scheme is made by Greek men.Helen escaped from her husband who owns her by drawing lots and tries to struggle to get happiness. Thereupon, Helen and Paris have made excuse for war with the desire of keeping
8、 each other. She and he are closely associated for 10 years, which is sweet and fragrant. But to those who live in Troy, this decade is a tough period for the enemies always peep at them so that they are too anxious to make a living. Outside the city, the Aegean Sea soldiers exile to the far ocean i
9、n order to compete for a war. Since Helen caused the Trojan War by eloping with Paris, and since many lives were lost in this war, most people would think that we should blame Helen for her selfishness. But if Helen knows her tracking down may let her lover meet with a tragic death and finally cause
10、s so many people to death, I think she wont choose to live with her true love .Instead, she may give those innocent person tranquility and peace.The Sparta king for his lust to Helen, becoming chess of his brother while starting the war, and the suffering of 10- year- waiting turns out to be looking
11、 at his brother violating his beloved woman with his own eyes. I cant fall into deep thinking that if people know the ultimate result before things happen, will they go to struggle? Having capability for prevision of future is seemingly not always a good thing. In the film,Pariss elder sister tries
12、to change future because of the tragedy that she foresees only to get into the circumstance of being shut in jail by her father. Most people dont have such capability. Because of this, they always look forward to live better and happier instead of cherishing those things theyve owned. History has no
13、t assigned the results of the Trojan War to any decision that Helen made. It was her beauty hat was the factor and in this way she was the tool of Aphrodite. That a womans body should have a value apart from her moral nature is a dilemma which has long challenged ethics with varied results. Should H
14、elen be blamed for receiving and maintaining a beautiful body? Shouldnt the blame fall on the others who wished to possess this body? Helen is a passive female who does little to affect the great scheme of things and so is hard to morally blame. But that she may have become the victim of retribution
15、 or may be an instrument of temptation, a natural force that needs control, and yet she need not do anything to earn these epithets. Yet the men, who are tempted, or controlling, must act to earn this distinction. Thus the ethics are applied with a double standard. Of course all attempts to deprive
16、Helen of eternity insignificant. The fact that she was later worshipped suggests that the fiction deified her.This epic movie is well made, I think. The movie director, John Kent Harrison shows his talent successfully in this commercial film. Besides that, famous stars such as Sienna Guillory, Resid
17、ent Evil whos joining in also make this film increase its brightness so that few audiences would say no to this movie. But I should point out one spot in the movie. The librettist of the movie failed to mold most characters. Besides Agamemnon, there is no other character which could be impressive en
