13、eer staying small,staying rightunder the radar.03:20But I want to talk about what Ive learned.03:45Theres two things that Ive learned in the last year.03:47The first is vulnerability is not weakness.03:51And that myth is profoundly dangerous.03:59Let me ask you honestly-and Ill give you this warning

14、,Imtrained as a therapist,so I can out-wait you uncomfortably-so if you could just raise your hand that would be awesome-how many of you honestly,04:03when youre thinking about doing something vulnerable orsaying something vulnerable,think,God,vulnerabilitysweakness.This is weakness?04:17frustrated:

17、earch-that vulnerability is our most accuratemeasurement of courage-to be vulnerable,to let ourselvesbe seen,to be honest.04:53One of the weird things thats happened is,after the TEDexplosion,I got a lot of offers to speak all over the country-everyone from schools and parent meetings to Fortune 500

23、 a fifth generation Texan.07:04Our family motto is Lock and load.07:14I am not a natural vulnerability researcher.07:17So Im like,just keep walking,shes on my six.07:22(Laughter)And then I hear,Vulnerability TED!07:26I turn around,I go,Hi.07:32Shes right here and she said,Youre the shame researcherw

29、s last year,I was reminded of acardinal rule-not a research rule,but a moral imperativefrom my upbringing-youve got to dance with the onewho brung ya.09:08And I did not learn about vulnerability and courage andcreativity and innovation from studying vulnerability.09:31I learned about these things fr

45、o you think youare?13:53The thing to understand about shame is its not guilt.13:59Shame is a focus on self,guilt is a focus on behavior.14:01Shame is I am bad.14:04Guilt is I did something bad.14:06How many of you,if you did something that was hurtful tome,would be willing to say,Im sorry.I made a m

46、istake?14:09How many of you would be willing to say that?14:15Guilt:Im sorry.I made a mistake.14:18Shame:Im sorry.I am a mistake.14:21Theres a huge difference between shame and guilt.14:25hurtful:adj.造成损害的And heres what you need to know.14:27Shame is highly,highly correlated with addiction,depressio

47、n,violence,aggression,bullying,suicide,eatingdisorders.14:29And heres what you even need to know more.14:39Guilt,inversely correlated with those things.14:41The ability to hold something weve done or failed to do upagainst who we want to be is incredibly adaptive.14:46Its uncomfortable,but its adapt
