15、ure a new generation of capable young people who have a good and all-round moral,intellectual,physical,and aesthetical grounding,and are well-prepared to join the socialist cause.”The mission of the curriculum of basic education is to implement the Partys education policy and thought,stipulate the g
16、oals and content of education,directly embody the national will in the field of education,and play a key role in fostering virtue through education.In 2003,the Ministry of Education issued the experimental versions of the General Senior High School Curriculum Program and Curriculum Standards,which g
17、uided the practice of the general senior high school curriculum reform for more than ten years,ensured that the reform followed the correct direction and adhered to advanced educational concepts,led to the basic establishment of the general senior high school curriculum system that was suitable to n
18、ational conditions and met the development requirements of the times,promoted the renewal of educational concepts,advanced the reform of talent training modes,improved the overall level of teachers,effectively pushed forward the reform of the examination and assessment system,and greatly contributed

20、ion of the principal contradiction facing Chinese society;the new requirements for promoting the well-rounded development of all people and improving the quality of talent training in the new era;and the new situation of basically universal senior high school education in China.In 2013,the Ministry
21、of Education launched the revision of the general senior high school curriculum.This revision profoundly summarizes the valuable experience in Chinas general senior high school curriculum reform since the beginning of the 21st century,fully draws on the outstanding achievements of international curr
22、iculum reforms,and strives to revise the General Senior High School Curriculum Program and Curriculum Standards into guiding documents that both suit Chinas actual situation and have an international perspective,and build a senior high school curriculum system with Chinese characteristics.1 Guidelin
23、es and Principles for the Revision1.1 GuidelinesGuided by Marxism-Leninism,Mao Zedong Thought,Deng Xiaoping Theory,the Theory of Three Represents,the Scientific Outlook on Development,and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,the revision aims to put the guiding
24、principles of the 18th and 19th Congresses of the Party into action;fully implement the Partys education policy and the task of fostering virtue through education;enhance students well-rounded development;promote equity in educa-tion;lead the curriculum reform with core socialist values;stress Vol17

27、to the direction of socialist education;fully embody the guiding position and fundamental position of Marxism;fully reflect Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era;integrate the fundamental content and requirement of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese
28、characteristics,and cultivating and practicing core socialist values;inherit and carry forward fine traditional Chinese culture and revolutionary culture;develop an advanced socialist culture;raise awareness of the rule of law,national security,ethnic unity,ecological civilization,and maritime right

37、aceix2 Main Content and Changes in the Revision2.1 Curriculum Program2.1.1 Further clarifying the position of general senior high school educationFollowing compulsory education,Chinas general senior high school education is a part of basic education that further improves the well-rounded development
38、 of the general public.The task of general senior high school education is to promote students comprehensive and individualized development,and prepare students for social life,higher education,and career development;and build a foundation for students lifelong development.The goal of general senior
39、 high school education is to further improve students overall development,with a special emphasis on their core competencies;cultivate lofty ideals and beliefs,and a sense of social responsibility in students;train their ability to acquire scientific and cultural competencies,to pursue lifelong lear
40、ning and autonomous development,and to engage in communication and collaboration.2.1.2 Further optimizing curriculum structureThe first is to retain original learning subjects and adjust the selection of foreign languages,adding German,French,and Spanish to the existing English,Japanese,and Russian.
41、The second is to adjust the course categories to:the required course,the required elective course,and the elective course,providing course options for students with different development directions on the premise of ensuring a common foundation.The third is to further clarify the function of each co

43、 required elective courses are designed to meet students needs for individualized development,graduation,and entrance examinations,and allow autonomy in attendance and examination.The elective courses,planned by schools according to their actual situations,allow students autonomy in course selection
44、 and examination,and serve as a reference for the job market and university recruitment.The fourth is to set a reasonable credit proportion of each course category.Without changing the total credits for graduation,the original required credits are reconstructed to include both required and required
45、elective credits.Appropriate credits are added to elective courses to increase options while ensuring basic foundation.2.1.3 Strengthening institution building for effective curriculum implementationThe revision has further clarified the main entities of responsibil-ity and requirements in the curri
46、culum implementation process.Requirements are put forward respectively for the national and provincial(autonomous regions and municipalities)governments,and schools in terms of curriculum standards,textbooks,curric-ulum planning,teaching management,assessment,and construc-tion of resources.A section
47、 on“Conditions and Guarantees”is added,which specifies requirements on teaching personnel and facilities,and funding guarantees.A section on“Management and Supervision”is also added to strengthen the accountability of ad-ministrative departments of education at all levels and schools in curriculum i
