Some people on the bank called out to the man in the boat, but he did not hear them. The ball struck him
3、 so hard that he nearly fell into the water. I turned to look at the children, but there werent any in sight: they had all run away! The man laughed when he realized what had happened. The Wayle is a small river that cuts across the park near my home. 威尔河是横穿我家附近公园的一条小河。本句是一个定语从句，that引导的这个句子是用来修饰前面的a small river。that在从句部分作主语，所以不可以省略。cut across在句中表示横穿，也表示抄近路穿过。如：He cut across a field to go home.
5、 他抄近路穿过一块田野回家。与cut相关的词组有：cut sth. down.表示把砍倒，还可以表示减价。如：He cut the tree down with an ax.他用一把斧头砍倒了这棵树。Could you cut the price down a little bit?你们能把价格降低一点吗？cut sth. off表示切去。如：She cut the fishs head off.她把鱼头切了下来。2. Some children were playing games on the bank and there were some people rowing on the ri

Suddenly, one of the children kicked a ball very hard and it went towards a passing boat. 突然，一个孩子狠狠的踢了一脚球，球便向一只划过来的小船飞去。这也是一个由a
7、nd连接的并列句。and后面的句子中现在分词passing用作定语，修饰后面的名词boat，表明动作正在进行。这里提一下动名词和现在分词的主要区别：现在分词相当于是形容词。而动名词就是动词变为名词。如：a swimming boy (swimming是现在分词)正在游泳的男孩a swimming suit (swimming是动名词)泳衣4. Some people on the bank called out to the man in the boat, but he did not hear them. 岸上的一些人对着小船上的人高喊，但他没有听见。句中called out to sb.
8、表示向某人大喊，向某人大叫。如文末的句子：He called out to the children and threw the ball back to the bank.他大声叫着那些孩子，把球扔回到岸上。5. The ball struck him so hard that he nearly fell into the water. 球重重的打在他身上，使他差点儿落入水中。这是一个结果状语从句，句中so+形容词/副词+that这个结构表示如此以至于。如：He is so naughty that no one likes him.他太淘气了，没有人喜欢他。He ran so quick

The man laughed when he realized what had happened. 当那个人明白了发生的事情时，笑了起来。整个句子是一个时间状语从句，The man laughed是主句部分，when he re
