1、Module 1 My First Day at Senior High My name is Li live in Shijiazhuang,a city not far from Beijing.Itis thecapitalcityof Hebei Province.Today ismyfirstdayatSeniorHighschoolandIm writingdownmythoughts about it.My new school is very good and I can see why.The teachers are very enthusiastic and friend
2、ly and the classroomsare amazing.Every room has a computerwith a specialscreen,almost as big as a cinema screen.The teachers write on the computer,and their words appear on the screen behind them.The screens also show photographs,text and information from websites.They re brilliant!The Englishclassi
3、s reallyinteresting.The teacher is a very enthusiastic woman called Ms Shen.We re using a new textbook and Ms Shens method of teachingis nothinglikethe teachersat myJuniorHigh school.She thinks that reading comprehension is important,but we speak a lot in class,too.And we have fun.I don t think I wi
4、llbe bored in MsShen s class!Today weintroducedourselvestoeachother.We didthisingroups.Some studentswereembarrassedat firstbut everyonewas very friendlyand itwasreally nice.Ms Shen gave us instructions and then we worked by ourselves.MsShen wants to help us improveour spellingandhandwriting.We do th
5、is in a fun way,with spelling games and otheractivities.Ilikeherattitudeverymuch,andthebehaviourof the otherstudentsshows thattheylikeher,too.There are sixty-five students in my class more than my previous class in Junior High.Forty-nine of them are girls.In other words,there are three times as many
6、 girls as boys.They say that girls are usually more hard-working than boys,but in this class,everyone is hard-working.For our homework tonight,we have to write a description of the street where welive.Im looking forward to doing it!My After-school Activities.As the students of modern times,we have c
7、olorful school life.Everyday,we learn plenty of knowledgeondifferentsubjectsinclass.And ourschoolorganizes many extracurricular activities in order to help us put what we have learned into practice.After class,we take part in variousactivities,likeplaying football,basketball,badminton,etc.They are g
8、ood for our health.Besides,we are abletojoininthelecturesorganizedbyliteratureassociation,music group,art group,where you can enjoy famousworks,learnto play instrumentsor draw pictures.Also,thereare chances forus to use computers in the laboratoryand talk with someforeignteachersaboutanythingwe are
9、interestedinat the English corner.Now,most of us may operate computers freely and have a good command of spoken English.In addition to the after-class activities mentioned here,there are still manyotherssuchassportsmeeting,debate,socialinvestigation,etc.All those activities make our school life attr
10、active and interesting.We will take advantages of the experience in the future.Moudle 2 My New Teachers They say thatfirstimpressionsare veryimportant.Myfirstimpressionof Mrs.Li was thatshe was nervousand shy.I thinkperhaps she was,as it was her first lesson with us.But now,aftertwo weeks,the classr
11、eallylikesworkingwith her.Sheskind and patient,and she explains English grammar so clearly that even I can understand it!She avoids making you feel stupid!Ivealwayshatedmakingmistakesorpronouncingawordincorrectly when I speak English,but Mrs.Li just smiles,so that you dont feel completely stupid!I t
12、hink maybe she goes a bit too slowly for the faster students,but for me its wonderful!I feel Im going to make progress with her.IdguessthatMrs.Chenisalmostsixty.Shesverystrictwedontdare to say a word unlessshe asks us to.Shesalso very seriousand doesntsmilemuch.When she asks you todo something,you d
13、o it immediately!There are a few students in our class who keep coming to class late but theyre always on time for Mrs.Chens lessons!Some of our class dont ike her,but most of us reallyappreciateher becauseher teachingis so well organised and clear.And a few students even admit likingher!Duringscien
14、tificexperiments,sheexplainsexactlywhat is happeningand as a resultmyworkis improving.Physics will never be my favourite lesson,but I think that Ill do well in the exam with Mrs Chen teaching me.Mr.Wu s only been teaching us for two weeks and hesalreadyverypopular.I thinkthisisbecausehe reallyenjoys

32、the moment,about80 percentof webtrafficis in English,but thispercentageis goingdown.By 2020,muchwebtrafficcould be in Chinese.The World Wide Webwas inventedin 1991 by an English scientist,Tim Berners-Lee.Berners-Leebuilt his first computer while he was at university using an old television!He came u
33、p with the idea of the World Wide Web in 1989 while he was working in Switzerland.Berners-Lee made itpossibleforeveryonetousetheInternet,notjustuniversitiesand the army.Hedesignedthe firstweb browser,which allowed computer users to access documents from other computers.From thatmomenton,the web and
