于是,动词通常是get the better of或者get the best of (都表示“胜过”)。 He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions get the better of him.(他站起来, 抱住 爸爸妈妈,并露出笑容,努力不让情感控制他。)在这
、句里,就用到了 get the better of的结构,表示“胜过”。 (1) Enthusiasm gets the better of me. (enthusiasm 热情)(2) Boredom often gets the best of them.他们常感到非常无聊.(boredom 无聊)(3) His curiosity got the better of him .
(1) Worrying deprived him of sleep. (2) Excitement deprived me of all power of speech. (3) Astonishment and horror oppressed her. (oppress 压迫)(4) Anger and bitterness had preyed upon me continually.
(1) Happiness crawls up to the tips of his brows. (字面意思是“幸福爬到他的眉毛尖”)(2) A slight feeling of fear slowly crept on him .
(3) Self-doubt began to gnaw away at her confidence. (4) Fear swallowed her.
(1) Joy shone from his brow. (2) Happiness radiates from her face. (radiate 发散,发光)(3) Smile spread across his face. (4) She has been in a dark mood this week. (a dark mood 用黑暗来形容心情 mood, 当然是“心情不好(5) His face clouded over when he heard the news.
(1) Grief bears heavily on her. 还有以“人”作主语的:(2) He was b
(3) The manager carried his anger. (4) After I lost my temper, I felt lighter. (5) Unburdening herself of her anger gave her a sense of relief.
常见的名词有:波纹(ripple)或wave(波浪)或flood (洪流),常见的动词有:涌出(well up), surge(涌动)甚至 sweep (冲;卷),有时 fill / brim/take possession of (注满/盛满/占满)容器,有时。verflow/well(漫出/溢出)容器,在高温下甚至会boil(沸腾).
、(1) Panic surged up within him他惶恐不安。(surge涌起,字面的意思是“恐惧在他身体里涌起”)(2) The terrible scene filled her with fear. (3) A wave of panic swept over her. (4) The loneliness and grief comes in waves. (1) His heart is overflowing with joy. (2) T could feel ange
、r boiling up inside me. (字面意思是:愤怒已经boil沸腾了”)(3) He was brimming with sorrow when she left him . Her eyes twinkled with merriment. Mack went into raptures and burst into laughter. A ripple of laughter went through th
