1、I started working atthe University of Leeds two years ago after changing my job.Having moved to a new city I was looking for things to do which would enable me to meet new people in my spare timed noticed that the Confucius Institute for Business was offering Chinese evening classes on the universit

2、y campus.l also noticed there were many international students on the campus,Chinese students included.I knew if I could learn Chinese,! could practice my Chinese with them.So together with a friend who had also recently moved to the cityj made a decision to sign up for a beginner (Level l)class.Par

3、t of my attraction to the challenge of learning a new language was the fact that it was not something I had previously done.My mother is from Spain and I was raised bilingual so I speak fluent Spanish, but there is a huge difference between acquiring a language in infancy and learning one from the b

4、eginning in adulthood.I was interested in finding out how I would do it. My first class took place in January 2017 and over a period of two months I attended one lesson a week, each lasting one and a half hours.My Chinese teacher,Mr Kong, was highly energetic and engaging. Each class he would teach

5、us thousands of new words and phrases, and then get us to act them out in role plays simulating(模仿)basic Chinese introductions and conversations.After each lesson I felt as though my brain had been placed in a deep fat fryer for a prolonged period of time-in a good way.Despite some mistakes in the b

6、eginning, after a while I began to realize that the more my brain ached immediately after class,the more information I had taken in.I found that Chinese phrases or nursery rhymes we had covered in class would pop unexpectedly into my head at random moments,such as when in the shower or driving to wo

12、d animals.She decided to do the same.She knew she might not be able to raise a lot of money to help her favorite animals,but she wanted to try her best to help them.But how?Finley then looked at the T-shirt she was wearing.She had an idea.She thought she could draw up an eye-catching logo to put on

13、T-shirts,hooded sweatshirts and bags with the hope of raising money to help injured and suddenly homeless koalas. That night,Finley went to hermother.
