14、verge ofRevolution 。England's king ,George ,was having trouble with his Americancolonies 。And France 's king ,Louis, was too concerned with his own wealth toworry about his people 。 Therefore, neither king noticed the changes taking place in his country。They didn't realize ,or care ,that

15、 the peasants were hungry and unhappy 。Theynever thought that anything was wrong with the way things were 。They werewealthy ,and they thought only of themselves。 But the peasants were tired of being treated unfairly。 They were tired ofwatching the kings waste money while their own children starved。

16、So, in bothLondon and Paris, the lower classes prepared to revolt 。They were ready to forcethe kings to make a change。 Then one day in July of 1789, the Revolution began in France 。Armedpeasants ran through the streets of Saint Antoine 。Their leader, Ernest Defargecontinued to pass out weapons。 The

17、men cheered and waved their weapons in theair 。Then, they marched toward the Bastille。 The novel also talks the story of two men, Charles Darnay and SydneyCarton。, who look similar but are very different in personality。 Darnay is aromantic French aristocrat, his uncle is the Marquis St。 Evremonde。 T

18、he Marquis is infamous for his cruelty。 While is a cynicalEnglish barrister。 However, the two are in love with the same woman, LucieManette。 Charles Darnay is not cruel like his uncle has been。 When he knew hisservant is in danger, he went to France at once to defend him。 He had promisedhis mother t

19、hat he would help the peasants。 He had a hard time traveling throughFrance。 When he finally reached Paris, he was taken prisoner。 In my point ofview, Charles Darnay is innocent, he is not cruel。 The other one is Sydney Carton。 In my opinion, he is a wonderful man。 He once said,I am not worthy of you

20、rlove, but I want you to know that I wish for your happiness。 I hope that we willable to remain close friends。 Miss Manette, I would give my life for you。 Neverforget that, Lucie。 Eventually, he was to die in Charles Darnays place。Because Charles Darnay is Lucies husband, and they led a happy life。

27、peasant Gaspard; he throws a coin to Gaspardto pensate him for his loss; in the assembled crowd is the implacabletricoteuse, Madame Defarge。 He throws the money back, enraging the Marquis andleading him to exclaim that he would willingly kill any of the peasants ofFrance。 If I were a peasant at that

28、 time in England or France,I would join in therevolution with no hesitation 。All man are equal 。The king of country shouldconcern his people whether they are starving or homeless 。We can learn much fromhistory in our country or in other countries ,only when the leader of thecountry cares much about

32、oss grange,represent opposing worlds and values。 i spent twenty days reading this book。 after reading this book, i felt forheathcliff at first。 heathcliff begins his life as a homeless orphan on thestreets of liverpool, and then he tyrannized by hindley earnshaw。 but he bees avillain when he acquire

33、s power and returns to wuthering heights with money andthe trappings of a gentleman。 his malevolence proves so great and longlasting。as he himself points out, his abuse of isabellahis wife is purely sadistic, ashe amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still e cringingback for more

34、。 catherine represents wild nature, in both her high, lively spirits and heroccasional cruelty。 she loves heathcliff so intensely that she claims they arethe same person。 however, her actions are driven in part by her socialambitions, which initially are awakened during her first stay at the lintons

35、,and which eventually pel her to marry edgar。 catherine is freespirited,beautiful, spoiled, and often arrogant, she is given to fits of temper, and sheis torn between her both of the men who love her。 the location of her coffinsymbolizes the conflict that tears apart her short life。 she is buried in

36、 acorner of the kirkyard。 in contrast to catherine, isabella lintoncatherinessisterinlaw represents culture and civilization, both in her refinement and inher weakness。 ultimately, she ruins her life by falling in love with heathcliff。he never returns her feelings and treats her as a meretool in his

37、 quest forrevenge on the linton family。 just as isabella linton serves as catherines foil, edgar linton serves asheathcliffs。 edgar grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man。 he isalmost the ideal gentleman。 however, this full assortment of gentlemanlycharacteristics, along with his civilized

38、virtues, proves useless in edgarsclashes with his foil。 he sees his wife obviously in love with another man butunable to do anything to rectify the situation。 heathcliff, who gains power overhis wife, sister , and daughter。 the whole story make peoples mood heavy。 fortunately, the end ishappy。 the a

39、uthor emily bronte lived an eccentric, closely guarded life。 she wasborn in 1818, two years after charlottethe author of jane eyre and a year and ahalf before her sister anne, who also became an author。 her father worked as achurch rector, and her aunt, who raised the bronte children after their mot

48、erwards。 With sympathy, Mr。 Brownlow took theinjured, poor Oliver to his own home。 There Oliver lived freely and gleefullyfor some months as if he were Mr。 Brownlows own son。 One day, however, Mr。Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send somemoney for the new books tha

49、t he had already collected。 The thief Oliver oncestayed with kidnapped him。 After that he disappeared in Mr。 Brownlows life。Searching for a while, Mr。 Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money。 But dramatically, they came across each otheragain a few years later。 Without hesitation
