7、gmatismoccurswhenthesurfaceofthecorneaorofthelensisnotperfectlysmooth.If,forexample,thereisasmallflatspotonyourcorneatheimageinacertaindirectiononyourretinawillnotbeinperfectfocus.Ifthefigureontherightwasconstructedwithalltheradiallinesofequalsharpnessandcontrastapersonwithoutastigmatismwouldseeallt

8、heseradiallinesasperfectlysharpandwiththesamecontrast.Thediagramontherighthasbeenfudgedtoillustratehowitmightappeartoapersonwithastigmatism.Thisconditioncanbecorrectedwithacornealcontactlensorcylinderlensinapairofspectacles.AstigmatismAstigmatismContactLensesContactLensesAverythinplasticlens,oftenfl
