By analyzing the characters and miserable life of Miss Rosa, this paper first dissects this
4、 female hero , who has possessed waken self-consciousness ,has suffered many difficulties and struggles to stick to hunting for self-identity and self-reconstruction, and then explores this woman how to pursue and lose all the social identities step by step, and the reason why she ended her life in
5、the way of self-destruction. This essay reveals the real reason of Rosa tragedy is her psychological trauma . This article explores Rosas tragic images from three aspects of family affection, love and imagination marriage. Based on the theory analysis of trauma, this paper analyzes the changes of ps
6、ychological and behaviors of Rosa s childhood, youth and old age. Rosa is not only one of the heroines of the novel, but also the representative of the nineteenth century female figures. Absalom, Absalom! is his ninth novel which is also his most important, the most complex, the most profound, the most epic style of a work. It is ab
11、out a family of the southern United States from 1860 to 1910 about experiencing intense falling apart and vividly shows all kinds of conflicts between people and their inner, involving many common problems related to the human condition. The novel narrative style is unique, the characters in the boo
12、k from different angles, with different subjective feelings explain the past, but it reflects the tragic style of the whole work. Rosa Coldfield is a pivotal figure in the novel, its special features: four narrators only she and the hero Sutpen had directly contacted and witnessed the story. She is

The title of the book comes from the allusions of Bible, the story describes the love and hate between the father and his sons, the ambiguous feelings between brothers and

The main character, Thomas Sutpen, a poor whites, with various predatory methods built plantations in Sutpens Hundred Jefferson Town, and his wife Alan gave birth to a son ,Henry, and a daughter, Judith. Before this, Sutpen had married a black woman and ha
20、d a son, Charles. Judith and her half- brother fell in love; in order to prevent the occurrence of incest, Henry killed Charles by his own hand. After some difficult years in the civil war, as the clue figure ,the Cold Field Rosa, young generation Quentin Compson and his classmate Shrevlin ,in the f

29、oner. When young, Rosa madly seeks for love. She looks herself as a substitute and enjoys others affection. She longs for marriage, but cant stand Sutpens rudeness. At the end, she is a loser in her whole life.2.1 A Loner in FamilyRosa is always lonely in her life. She never receives parental care,
30、family care, never has the experience of her fathers love, the warmth of the family. But she is eager to have these roles such as a daughter, wife, mother, and so on, to prove herself as a human. She is sensitive, lonely, hysterical, all her life is looking for some roles of women in those years, bu
31、t end in failure. Rosa has an unhappy family. since her birth, and the affection that Rosa had been longing for but never had. Not only she does not get family love, warmth, compassion and care in her childhood, and when she was a little girl, her family instill hatred for all the men, this hatred s
32、eriously hurt her heart.2.1.1 The Lack of Family AffectionRosa has an unhappy childhood. She came just “in time when granted that Miss Rosa merely mirrored her parents attitude toward the son-in-low - the family wanted only peace and quiet, and probably did not expect and maybe did not even want ano
33、ther child” (Faulkner 79).The middle-aged mother was pregnant again, then died in childbirth bed, so Rosa came this world with the lack of her mothers care. Because of her birth caused the death of the mother, Rosa had a deep sense of guilt and guilt. Her family also regarded her birth as the price

For 35 years she is still unable to get married , aunt formed a comprehensive and even the extension of the complaint that accused “all the male supremacy in the world”(Gwin M. 42). “And the aunt w
39、ho even ten years later was still taking revenge for the Ellens wedding by striking at the town, the human race”(Faulkner 80). Aunt just infused her anger of Jefferson town and male into little Rosa, did not really understand the niece. In the growth of Rosa, She secretly listened to the Sutpens con
40、versation and told aunt, just as aunts ear. Aunt disappeared, like inheriting aunts clothes, Rosa inherited her hatred of men. After aunt had the elopement with a mule dealer, young Rosa had to start managing the household, and began to take care of herself, Rosa reformed aunts big clothes into some

She is not allowed to walk out of the house because his father is withdrawn and stubborn, and she always spend most of her time at home.Rosa does not not keep in touch with her sister and has a good relationship with Ellen. Ellens life is meaningless. In addition to mock Rosa to ask h
42、er for help, nothing can do. Seven years before Rosas birth, Ellens life has been caught in a dilemma, only focus on herself, didnt need a sister. Rosa and Alans only connection is to take care of her children when her sister is dying. After Ellens death, Rosa moved to
45、 her sisters house, with her sisters wishes.The only quiet moment in her life is when she heard that Bon had been killed by Judiths brother, Herry, hurried to thyme and comfort Judith, she arrived Sutpen Hundred. At the same time, Rosa felt a little warmer from her family. When she talked with Quent
46、in, she said: “ now you will ask me why I wanted to stay there, as if a 19-year-old girl wanted to meet her family after the war”(Faulkner 216). Then told Quentin that she left not because of need of food, refuge or for the company of others, she explained that the reason to stay is to wait for the

It is her second voluntary to submit to the needs of others, just as she is under a guilty that mother died in childbirth, as she is faithfully to listen to something that evil-mind aunt poured; just as she struggles to take care of the self-blockade retiring father; as soon as sh
