1、玻璃动物园2.Content As for Lauras tragedy,the causes of it are both social and personal.Specially speaking,they are:the history and social factor,the family factor and the personal causes.In the next part,I will analyze these factors one by one and in the last part I will draw the conclusion.3Main partth
2、e causes of Lauras miserable life3.1 The social factor There is no deny that women are always treated as inferior to men and they also have been suffering all along.It seems a custom and attitude that women are weak.Deprived of the right to making their own living,women used to play the traditional
3、role of fragile type.3.1 The social factor As for Laura,she is a traditional girl which history put onto her.She is presented as suffering,passive one by history factor.She is defective both physically and mentally.Because of these she is more rely on others help.Eg,she is expecting to get brotherly
4、 love and financial support from her brother.She also wants love from Jim,under whose help she becomes more or less confident.She lives in the age of Depression;the decline in economy makes people more self-centered.She cannot get enough support from the society.The grim society not only threatens h
5、er living but also destroys her inner world which is as fragile as a glass.3.2The family factor In her childhood,her father abandons the family.To the family,this is a disaster;as we can see from the Toms description about the bad living condition of the family.she has to live without the love from
6、her father.3.2.The family factor As for her mother Amanda,she lives in the illusion of the past.Eg.in sence1,when she mentions the entertainment of the callers in Blue Mountain,she even know clearly about the very details of the caller.She is so lost in the past that she can not face the harsh reali
7、ty.Later in the play,she tells Jim:well,in the south,we had so many servantsI wasnt prepared for what the future brought me.She has no choice but to pay more attention to her children.She places much hope on Laura and thinks Laura is perfect.The extreme protection from Amanda makes Laura can not see
8、 who she is and lets her more self-abased.3.3personnal cause Laura is crippled due to an illness in childhood,one leg slightly shorter than the other and held in braceShe is very sensitive about her physical disability.This is the physical defect of her.However,the most important defect of her is he
9、r mental disability.She is shy and lack of confidence.eg,she becomes nervous when Amanda ask her to prepare for callers.She even appears frightened when she sees Jim for she loves him but can not say it bravely.3.3.personnal causenLaure likes to collect glass animals and her heart is as fragile as t
10、he glass.Inscene7,when Jim breaks a glass,Laura says that“glass breaks so easily.No matter how careful you are”,this can be seen as a self-description of herself.She is so delicate and fragile that she can not adjust to life.In Jims word,he thinks she is too self-conscious and always puts herself in
