A marketing manager is responsible for marketing the products for a company.A project manager is responsible for a running a project.A general

CEO = Chief Executive OfficerCFO = Chief Financial Officer CTO = Chief Technology Officer有个公司里有个人印了个名片 CPO， 有人问他：What are you responsible for ?他回答：I am the Chief Printing Officer in our company.注意：在娱乐圈中，一个明星的经纪人，也叫 manager帮助艺人发展策划并处理商业上
3、的运作。The manager of a singer or an actor is the person who takes care of their business interests.2.Upset1）v. 打翻（up 朝上 + set 放置: 想象把一个杯子，底朝上，不就是打翻吗）I just upset a cup of coffee. 我打翻了一杯咖啡。注意 upset 的引申意思：Joey 迟到了 2 个小时，把我们的一切安排都打乱了。Joey arrived two hours late and upset all our arrangements.【这里 upset 引申

Sympatheticadj. 同情的用法：be sympathetic to/towards sb.同情应该是人类普遍的一种情感反应，当遇见他人的苦难和不幸，表现出关怀、理解：If you are sympathetic to someone who is in a bad situation, you are kind to them and show that you understand their feelings.比如：看到很多贫困地区的孩子无法上学，人们产生同情。 （听记 2）也可以说：People have / show
6、 sympathy for those poor kids.如果一个小偷偷窃的时候，被狗咬了，人们说：You deserve it.People have no sympathy for the thief who got bitten by a dog.人们不同情被狗咬伤的盗贼。语言小知识：构词法：sym 表示 “path” =（听记 3）sympathyn. 同情pathetic adj. 可怜的 （引起你的同情的） 口语中有贬义： 比如：You are so pathetic! You cant even cook instant noodles.你连方便面都不会做，太可悲了! tele
7、pathy tlpi n. 心灵感应(tele=远距离+pathy 情感=感知远距离的情感)你从来不告诉我你在想什么。我是不是该用心灵感应术呢？You never tell me what youre thinking. Am I supposed to use telepathy?empathyn. 共情，同理心用法：have empathy with/for sb.Empathy is the ability to share another persons feelings and emotions as if they were your own.同理心就是能感知别人情感的能力, 换位
8、思考感同身受的能力。有同理心的人会问：If I were in your shoes, how would I feel ? (如果我在你的情况下，我会有什么感受？)当人们相互之间有更多的同理心，世界将会变得更加包容和和谐。If people have empathy with each other,the world will be more inclusive（包容） and harmonious（和谐）.4. Complainv. 抱怨If you complain about a situation, you say that you are not satisfied with it
9、.用法：complain aboutThere may be a lot of things we are not satisfied with in life.Students may complain about their study. Workers may complain about their work. Some people may complain about the society.Others may complain about the unfairness of the world.但是，抱怨无法改变任何事。BUT, complaining never change
10、s anything.不抱怨，采取行动改变现状才是真正重要的。Instead of complaining, taking actions to make things better is what really matters.美国总统奥巴马：The future rewards those who press on.（press on v.推进） I dont have time to feel sorry for myself.I dont have time to complain. 11、？英文有句名言：“You can complain because roses have thorns or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.”意思是： 【这句话要表达的意思是：If you look for something to complain about, you will certainly find it!But dont waste your time complaining，because they never lead to anything positive. 12、】口语：How are you doing?I cant complain! （我没啥可抱怨的，表示还不错） 名词：complaint n. 投诉make a complaint 提出投诉= to formally complain about something to someone in authority如果你在酒店,发现酒店餐厅的饭里有苍蝇。I will make a complaint to the hotel manager. 我会向酒店经理提出投诉。5. wickedadj. 邪恶的,缺德的= very bad and morally wrong比如：格林童话里白雪公主的后妈Sn
13、ow White has a wicked stepmother who always wants to kill her.再比如：“明枪易躲，暗箭难防”，中国武侠剧中的“暗箭”属于阴招。 一个英雄遭到暗算牺牲： The hero died of a wicked attack.注意：口语中，不同语境中这个词的衍生意思：家里买了只小猫，小猫很淘气，上蹿下跳，打破了很多东西：What a wicked kitten！ 真是一只小淘气猫！冬天，打开门，一阵冷风刮得你瑟瑟发抖。The wind is wicked !外面的风冷的够呛。（=unpleasant）6. Contain1）容纳，装着. (

Honesty关于诚信，美国有句著名谚语，

Susan：It could be worse.请问 Susan 考得好不好？It could be worse. (可能更糟，表示实际情况还好)It could be better. (可能更好，表示实际情况不好)It cou
20、ldnt be better.（好得不能再好了，表示非常棒了） It couldnt be worse.（糟得不能再糟，表示非常糟了）重要用法：口语中的必备句型：couldnt be + 形容词比较级 = be very + 形容词原级.表示 “非常, 极其.”The structure X couldnt be more Y has become a commonplace way to say X is very Y.【注意这里的 could，只是表达可能性判断，不是表示过去时】注意这个句式的本质思维：（听记 1） 造句练习：我太高兴了！I couldnt be happier. “不能再
21、比这更高兴了”表示很高兴我太失望了！I couldnt be more disappointed.=I am very disappointed我对你们酒店的一切都非常满意。I couldnt be more pleased with everything in your hotel.我非常感谢！（听记 2）场景想象：在全国篮球决赛现场：你所在的球队，两名主力不幸受伤： 教练对你们说：“情况非常艰难。”The situation couldnt be more difficult.“但是，我们无比坚定地要赢得比赛。 ”But we couldnt be more determined to w
22、in the game.“我们也对胜利非常有信心!”We couldnt be more confident of victory.“我为你感到无比骄傲。”I couldnt be more proud of you.再比如：Trump 当选总统后：有报纸抨击他的政策：Trump 对于美国就业市场的判断简直是大错特错。Trump couldnt be more wrong about US jobs.2. The manager was sympathetic, but he could do nothing.类似的说法：I feel sorry for you, but I cant do

Sorry, there is nothing I can do about it.“Everyone is losing money these days ”这里现在进行时表示不断重复的事情，带有一种抱怨的语气，并非此时此刻发生。小结： 现在进行时的用法：不仅仅表达此时此刻发生的事，常见还有四种用法：1）表示：重复的事，带有感情色彩，常和 always, forever, constantly 等时间连用。My boss is always inviting us out for dinner. 25、is driving me crazy. My English is getting better.B. 表最近的将来确定的安排，马上要做的事（通常和将来时间连用, 或有语境表达未来的时间）I am flying to London tomorrow. Susan is getting married.思维点睛： 为啥用现在进行时来表示“最近的将来”？因为：（听记 3）3. He started to complain about this wicked world but was interrupted by a knock at the door. A girl came in and p

It contained 50 pounds.本句精华体会：“未见其人，先闻其声”这样表达有什么好处？声音往往能造成悬念（the creation of suspense），前半句的画面是办公室里里酒店经理抱怨的画面，我们可能想象他一脸无奈的表情。而突然出现的 a knock at the door, 顿时让我们脑海中的“场景画面”切换到了门口。听众/读者会在心中问：What happened? Who was knocking at the door?在女孩进来之后，又有一个悬念：她把一个信封放在桌子上。 听众/读者会在心中问：What
27、was in the envelop?最后作者才公布答案： It contained 50 pounds.在讲故事的时候，如果有 suspense 就能抓住读者的注意力，使得故事变得有趣。When you are telling a story, creating suspense can catch your readers attention and make your story more attractive and interesting.所以制造悬念对于讲好故事特别重要，无论是在小说，电影还是我们的日常沟通中。So the creation of suspense is impor
