3、 put it.Once David showed he was comfortable with the researcher,other chimps warmed up to her.Fifi,one of the oldest female chimpanzees in a North American Zoo,was born in 1958 and died in 2009 at the Toledo Zoo.Fifi was only two years old when Dr.Jane Goodall started her research at Gombe in 1960.
4、As a youngster,Fifi was fascinated by other infants and frequently“kidnapped”her younger siblings.She handled her siblings very gently in travel,and in grooming and playing sessions.She participated with her mother in many social contexts and therefore gained much social experience,which probably le
5、d to her later success.As one of the most successful females in Gombe,she had had eight offspring(seven of whom have survived).Frodo,Fifis second son,was born in 1976.Frodo was a mischievous youngster,and often threw rocks at chimps and people alike.Frodo has grown into the largest chimp in the hist
6、ory of the Gombe chimpanzee project,weighing in at roughly 115 pounds.Frodo has used his size to his advantage,and with his impressive displays and violent attacks,quickly advanced in the male dominance hierarchy.Frodos violent tendencies have made him a rather unpopular character,both among the res
7、earchers and the chimps.American Sign Language(ASL)is a complete,complex language that employs signs made by moving the hands combined with facial expressions and postures of the body.It is the primary language of many North Americans who are deaf and is one of several communication options used by
8、people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.ASL is accepted by many high schools,colleges,and universities in fulfillment of modern and“foreign”language academic degree requirements across the United States.Clinical depression is not a sign of personal weakness,or a condition that can be willed away.Clin
