All dynasties have strict requi

3、rements on the clothing system, forming a distinctive Chinese traditional clothing culture in the long-term development. Therefore, many scholars devote themselves to the study of Chinese wedding dress. Bao Zonghao in the Marriage Customs and the Chinese Traditional Culture has further study of the

4、effects of Chinese traditional culture Chinese wedding dress and its change. The Chinese scholars pay more attention to the change of Chinese wedding dresses in different historical periods and the influencing factors. However, western researchers pay more attention to the connection between wedding

5、 dress and social theory, which is represented by The Fashionable Body by Joanne Entwistle. In his work, Joanne puts forward that the aesthetic scale is the value scale of aesthetics. With the increase of communication between eastern and western countries, the comparative study of Chinese and weste

6、rn culture has attracted the attention of scholars. As an embodiment of national culture, wedding culture is also a key point in the study of Chinese and western culture. At present, the comparative study of Chinese and American wedding dress only stays in the surface style, so we need to further st

7、udy.This paper mainly discusses the differences between Chinese and western wedding dress culture in aesthetic concept, regional cultural background, religious belief, ethnic customs and philosophical thoughts, hoping to make a comprehensive understanding of Chinese and western culture through weddi

8、ng dress.Keywords: wedding dress, culture, wedding ceremony, China, America中美婚礼服饰文化对比研究摘 要中国是一个古老、悠久、有着深厚文化底蕴的国家,服装也是其文明发展的一部分,历朝历代都有着严格的服装制度要求,在长期的发展中形成了具有鲜明特色的中国传统服装文化。 因此许多学者投身于中国婚礼服饰的研究。鲍宗豪在婚俗与中国传统文化中深入研究中国传统文化对于中国婚礼服饰所带来的影响和改变,中国学者更注重探究不同历史时期中式婚礼服饰的变化历程以及影响因素。而西方研究者更注重将婚礼服饰与社会理论相联系,以乔安尼恩特维斯特尔的时

Howeve

14、r the shape is basically the same, and its cultural connotation has been basically ignored. The wedding dress is an important part of wedding culture. As an embodiment of national culture, wedding culture is also a key point in the study of Chinese and western culture. Since times are developing and

15、 the society is progressing, our wedding dress culture is also in the development of the times and development. Therefore we should have a deeper understanding of the wedding dress culture of both sides, and explore the wedding dress with traditional characteristics under the current fashion situati

16、on and cultural background, so that the contemporary wedding dress not only has national elements but also adapts to the social trend. Thus it highlights the importance of researching Chinese and American wedding dress.1 The Development of Chinese Wedding Dress CultureIn ancient times, Chinese weddi

17、ngs were usually held at dusk. Wedding is the ceremony for the couple to form a relationship, and is one of the most important Chinese etiquette for thousands of years (Wang, 2015). What is the traditional Chinese wedding process? After a thousand years of feudal society, how did it evolve? Does the

18、 modern wedding inherit the traditional wedding? This paper will study these questions.1.1 Chinese Traditional Wedding ProcessThe book of Rites, Faint Righteousness, records the traditional Chinese wedding as follows: the wedding is a kind of ceremony that will combine the good of both sexes, which

19、is related to the worship of ancestral temple on the top and the procreation of the next generation on the bottom”. Therefore, the superior man attaches great importance to it. Although the Chinese times constantly change, but the evolution of the wedding basically inherited the ancient six ceremony

20、 procedures, generally cannot including a few big steps: engagement, marriage, ceremony, return to the door and so on. Although the ceremony changes several times, the wedding clothing, ritual and message have always been very particular. Although people try their best to make their wedding more fas

21、hionable or local, they still deeply engrave with the trust of the good hope. This is because the Chinese traditional wedding is endowed with its ethical thought. 1.1.1 Premarital Ceremony In the traditional wedding process, premarital ceremony is a very important part. Both men and women exchange e

22、ight characters of birth and let people approve eight characters. If the eight characters do not face each other, then they can talk about the marriage. In Chinese its called Na Qin, which means both the man and the woman have the intention of marriage, mutual acceptance. At this time, the man needs

23、 to offer the woman dowry and marriage document. The betrothal gift time also has a regulation, which is generally 15 to 20 days before the marriage, and the man will choose an auspicious day to come to the womans home to propose marriage. This is all the wedding must link.1.1.2 Formal Wedding In th

24、e process of the wedding, the formal wedding is the most critical part. Formal wedding refers to the ceremony of the day of marriage of both man and woman. In a wedding, the groom usually goes to the brides home to pick up the bride after ancestor worship. On the way, the bride is accompanied by a m

25、usic team. When the groom arrives at the brides home, both the bride and groom bow down to the brides parents, and then the bride is supported by her sister or other female relatives to the sedan chair. After arriving at the grooms home, the bride of the grooms family opens the door to invite out th

26、e bride. After that is the hall, surrounded by relatives and friends, the bride and groom go in the front of the hall. They first worship heaven and earth, and then worship their parents. After the husband and wife worship, the new couple in the drum song go into the bridal chamber. After the weddin

27、g ceremony, the groom will accompany his relatives and friends to drink the wedding wine, while the bride will sit alone in the bridal chamber.1.1.3 After-Wedding Ceremony The so-called after-wedding ceremony means the couple observes the etiquette on the second and third days after the wedding. In

28、the morning, the bride and groom meet the grooms parents together, and the bride offers tea to her parents-in-laws. On the third day, the couple offer sacrifices to their ancestors. In some places, the bride must return to her home accompanied by the groom.1.2 Chinese Wedding Dress Styles in Differe

29、nt Historical PeriodsChina has a profound history and culture, and the wedding clothes have different development in different periods, but they all keep the basic two characteristics. The first is upper garment and lower garment separated shape, and the second is upper garment and lower garment con

30、joined shape.1.2.1 The Wedding Dress in Zhou DynastyUnlike what is known as Chinese red, the Zhou Dynastys wedding dress was mainly black. The Zhou Dynasty was the heyday of the slavery society in China. The system of rites was strict. Nobles could only intermarry with nobles, while common people co

31、uld only intermarry with common people. And Zhou Dynasty was honored with black color. People thought black color represented the day. Black, close to the blue and black, the Zhou Dynasty wedding dress is the main color. And in the Qin and Han Dynasties, they also follow the basic ritual, so men and

The Tang Dynasty had a broad ter

33、ritory, during which the national strength was unprecedented, peoples ideology was constantly agitated, and the social situation was very inclusive. In this environment, peoples spirit was relatively free, and their innovative consciousness had been developed. Therefore, in the Tang Dynasty, there w

34、ere poems and paintings that have been handed down for thousands of years. The Tang people liked to pursue individuality and surpass the former bearing, which makes the Tang society present the cultural character of masculine beauty such as glycol, exciting, unrestrained, rich and desolate, and beca

35、me the mainstream of the times. In the Tang Dynasty, the costumes were very gorgeous, mainly with big sleeves and low collars. At the same time, there were Ru skirts and silk drapes. People pursued the combination of rich and unrestrained clothing concept and infinite creativity. The development of

36、productivity and the improvement of textile dyeing technology made clothing styles and colors more diverse at that time. The Tang Dynasty did not worship black but yellow. The wedding dress was no longer black but man in red and woman in green.In the late Tang Dynasty, the Chaidian-dress was also de

37、veloped. Its a kind of clothes with many layers. When people wear this kind of dress, they need put layer upon layer, then cover with wide-sleeved blouse. Japans famous ancient imperial “Twelve orders” of kimono evolves form this dress. After the Tang Dynasty, the fussy Chaidian-dress has been simpl

38、ified to a general sense of sleeve blouse. 39、ies in Chinese history. All ethnic groups in the territory integrated with each other and influenced each other. The marriage customs of the Yuan Dynasty also showed diversity, with both their own national characteristics and the shadow of other ethnic groups.The wedding clothes of the Yuan Dynasty

40、also have Mongolian characteristics. 41、he last unified Dynasty established by the Han nationality in Chinese history. The wedding culture of Ming Dynasty has the greatest influence on modern times. In our modern hearts, when getting married, women wear red and auspicious clothes, under the coat, phoenix crown, which is an ideal ancient w

42、edding form. This style of wedding dress was laid down in the Ming Dynasty and continued to be used in the Qing Dynasty and the early republic of China. At this time, the wedding dress of the Ming Dynasty is phoenix crown and nepheline top clothing. The bride usually wears really red sleeve clothes

43、or round collar female python suits, red pleated skirts, red Beizi (A kind of coat in Ming Dynasty). In Ming Dynasty, the big sleeves were also called big shirts. This kind of clothing was red. The bride wears inside a big red skirt which has more drape and a bigger lower hem. This kind of dress mak

It was an era when Manchu and Han cultures blended, especially the garment culture. It was also a non

45、-Han Dynasty that retained most of the original costume traditions after entering China. The Qing Dynasty entered the central plains with a foreign nationality, and the Manchu were nomads who were warlike. They formed their own way of life during their military career, and the shape and structure of

46、 the crown and costume were quite different from those of the Han people. After the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, in order to strengthen the rule, shaven hair and changing clothing were implemented. Except for the preservation of the phoenix crown, the traditional clothing system formed before

47、the remaining Ming Dynasty was almost abolished, and the Manchu flag clothing began to prevail. The bride married, although it is still the Phoenix crown, red auspicious clothing, the design is to cheongsam as a template. And the bridegroom officer is the Manchu peoples robes, red for the wedding dress.
