、Sex and Gender1. Introduction In the past decades, some people have always taken sex and gender as one thing. However, sex is different from gender in nature. Sometimes it is really difficult to understand exactly what is meant by the term “sex”, and how it differs from the closely related term “gen
、der”. However, sex refers more to the biological and physiological characteristics. That is to say, you can define a person to be a man or a woman by sex. Gender, however, refers more to the socially constructed roles and the contribution in the relationship between men and women. In another word, m
、ale and female can be used to describe sex categories while gender categories can only be described using masculine and feminine. (Little and Terrance, 2010) As is considered, a real man means male sex plus masculine characteristics and behaviors that the cultural defines. A real woman requires fema
、le sex and feminine characteristics. Although men and women are born equal, they take different responsibilities in both work and family life. In work, men seem to be a more leading role in a team. They are appointed more important work. It is known that women are playing more and more important rol

Men are more competitive for a work not only because of their abilities but also because of their physiological characteristics and the social cultures. In a family, men take more responsibilities in earning money for the family. Women spend
、more time at home doing housework and taking care of the children. To be deeper, men are leading in family life and sex life. However, as the society develops, homosexuality is accepted by more and more people. In such relationship, the two different persons may act differently. In fact, they can on
、ly be attracted by people in the same sex. They have interests when they are confronted with others. Such relationships were secular hated in the past time. People just could not understand and accept such actions. Lucky to them, people now have accepted them. Different people have different experie
、nces and interests, although people seem to justify things by their own rules, different actions should also be accepted. (Daniel, 2009)2. Relationships between sex and genderAs the social develops, people are more and more tolerant for different actions. They believe that everyone has the rights to
、 seek the happiness. Homosexuality, once was considered as evil and hideous, becomes accepted by more and more people. Some people have different aesthetics and interests, and people choose to understand them. It is considered to be a symbol of social progress that different relationships are accept
、ed by the society.2.1 Normal relationship between male and femaleThe most normal and accepted family has always been composed of a man and a woman. They may have some children to build a complete family. The relationship is decided not only the sex categories but also division of labor in society. A
、 mans masculine beauty, to some extent, can be showed by the focus to the work. The more a man contributes to the work, the more charming he will become to the society. However, womens beauty may lie on the smile. When a woman focuses on the work, the smile will disappear and fortitude will be enhan
、ced. Therefore, too much focus on work may make a woman lose the feminine female beauty. The fact is not used to support the point that women should be away from work. We cannot deny the fact that women can do a job as well as men. Women should do suitable amount of work and spend other time to show
、 their feminine female beauty. To a certain degree, men show themselves through success and self-improvement, while womens beauty rely more on blandness and smile. Female beauty not only includes the body appearance but also the appearance and temperament. In this point, women are more suitable for w
、ork that needs to communicate with others. Men are responsible for exploding the world while women are responsible for enhance relationships between people. Many people may think that the behavior and role differences between men and women are due to cultural factors and human long-term culture. Of
、course, human life and the culture will influence male and female behavior patterns, but they cannot lead to such conditions absolutely. What else can explain why human culture will create such differences? Whether these differences innate or acquired by the influence of the society. One point that
、men and women play different roles in the society is certain for everyone. ( Herrick, 2009) In fact, the reason why human culture provides men and women different social division of labor and roles can be explained as men and women are born physiologically and psychologically different. What is more
、, men and women have innate and inherent differences in the sexes in all aspects of the thinking, emotions, abilities, interests, and so on. The equality of men and women should not be defined that their work must be exactly the same, but should be reflected in the wishes of the men and women are fu
、lly recognized and affirmed, on the basis of each to do their jobs. If anyone wants to try new roles, he /she should get support and encouragement. The evolution of human civilization shaped by gender characteristics, including physical characteristics, psychological characteristics, gender image ch
、aracteristics and demeanor, temperament and other distinctive characteristics, should be particularly worth the human treasure and cherish. The corporation of different gender wisdoms makes people develop more healthily. This is the attractive charm of sex. What has been discussed can explain why men
、 always love women. The differences between them may become attractive to them, and once they compose a family, they can collaborate with each other fluently. This kind of relationship is considered normal and accepted because most of people will end in this way. This is the end of most people, so p
、eople think it natural and reasonable.2.2 Boy loveWhen one hears that one boy falls in love with another boy. He may feel shocked and unimaginable. In fact, it is not strange to witness such love any more. The popular film “Brokeback Mountain” tells a love story between two boys, Jack and Ennis. (Es
、posito, Davis and Love, 2007)In the film, Jack looked like a happy boy. He was conversable and open-minded. However, Ennis did not say many words. Although they communicated with each other rarely, the work made them quite tacit with each other. Although they were not willing to admit the fact that
、they had fallen in love with each other, they made love on a cold day after drinking a lot of alcohol. The two young men spent the happiest time in Brokeback Mountain. As they ended the time and returned to the town, they had to give up and composed their own families respectively. Although they liv
、ed apart, they missed each other so eagerly that they met again. They both knew the love between them. However, the family bore a lot by knowing the relationship between them, and so were Jack and Ennis. In that time, such relationship was not accepted by people. People who fell into such relationsh
、ip almost ended in a tragedy. (Grindstaff, 2008)In the Bible, homosexuality is explicitly condemned. Religious belief played an important role in influencing peoples attitude to family. In traditional way, family and marriage is based on Christs words that a man and a wife are to be regarded as a si
、ngle organism in a family. Only such intimate relationships in the family are accepted. People who believe in the Bible value the family very much and they think the family as the basic and permanent human institution. They will never support homosexuals, and they even call on laws to punish adulter
、y and executed homosexuals severely. Those with gay orientations have always been called sick, sinful or perverse. This can be a reflection of peoples attitude to homosexuals. In the film “Brokeback Mountain”, the love between Jack and Ennis moved a lot of people, and they had the rights to seek the
、ir own happiness. However, who has even thought for their wives and children. In the film, after knowing the relationship between Jack and Ennis, Alma was so sad about this. No matter what happened, the man should take the responsibility of the family. Although the love between the two young men was
、 moving and constant, they should also deal with the family in a suitable way. (Snider, 2008)Through the interpretation of the homosexual movie “Brokeback Mountain”, we can feel the miseries of the homosexuals living in the homosexual-dominating world. Those homosexuals feel that they are outsiders
、of the family, they can neither accepted by the heterosexual families nor form the homosexual families to keep their way of life. The lifestyle of homosexuals deemed to be a tragedy in that time. The conflicts that make homosexuals live in a twisty life style lie on different attitudes to homosexual
、ity. The conflicts also have resulted in misfortunes of many people. Homosexuality and heterosexual family appeared a long time ago. In ancient times, people felt it natural to form a family with one of the opposite sex. In the concept, the existence of homosexuals is obviously ignored. However, the
、 homosexuals need more care and supports. If the homosexuals are willing to live a happy life, they must experience more than the normal people. They need to deal with the division of family responsibilities because the two homosexuals are same in most aspects. Besides, they need to bear the contemp
、t from other people. As they cannot decide what kind of people they may fall in love with, just seek for the happiness. Leave the contempt behind.2.3 Girl loveMany people have been deeply impressed by the film “Brokeback Mountain” not only because of the beautiful scene in the film but also because
、of the pure love between the two young men. Another film “Boys Dont Cry” can also impress you. The film describes the story of a girl, named Brandon, who only loved girls. In this film, the experiences of Brandon tried to convince people the idea that one should go on seeking his/her dream without s
、topping. Brandon came to the small town in a boys appearance, and his appearing broke up the peace of the small town. Everyone was attracted by her trueness. Girls showed love to her and boys liked to make friends with her. Though Brandon was famous in the small ton, she still lived discreetly becau
、se she did not want others to know her secrets that she was a girl. She fell in love with Rana at the first sight. They soon fell in love with each other. Finally, the secret of Brandon was known by everyone in the town. Rana chose to support her and insisted to be with her. However, her ever “frien
、ds” Tom and John felt insulted by her. They raped and brutally killed her.Although the love between Brandon and Rana impressed us deeply, the tragic ending was also thought-provoking. Homosexual women prefer to be called “lesbians”. They got the names also because people at that time looked down on
、such relationships. The domestic relationships in same-sex marriage seem quite different with opposite-sex marriage. Even though they can accept the “my-turn-your-turn” sexual interaction, they may not enjoy the family life in the long run. Referring to homosexuality, the film also deconstructs gend
、er and sexuality. There are various traditional and nontraditional theories of the family. In traditional theories, a woman is considered to be married with a man. (Lasser, Ryser and Larry, 2010)No matter what people think about lesbians, they have rights to seek for love and happiness. Just as the
、film implies, do not be stopped in the way for dream. In such family, the two people may take different responsibilities. As is known by everyone, sex is not the determinant for gender. Ones gender can decide what he/she can do to some extent. For homosexual family, the biggest problem is not betwee
、n the two people with the same sex, but the attitudes to them from other people. (Sinclair, 2009) As the film implied, people at that time hated homosexuality very much. It is quite brave to make heterosexual love public. If the two homosexuals can conquer all the problems, they deserve the happy li
、fe.3. Analysis and Influence of such relationshipsPeople those who have lesbian or gay orientations have been thought as un-normal. They lived hardly in the society. In ancient times, Ancient Greeks held a tolerant attitude to gay people. They supported and recorded the love between people with the
、same sex. However, as Christian became more and more popular, homosexuals found it hard to survive because homosexuality is forbad in the Bible. As the development of the society, a mass of gay liberations movement was born. They fought for more rights and social status. Gays challenged all forms of
、 hostility and punishment that the society meted out to them. Because of such movement, homosexuality is being accepted by more and more people. In some country, laws are enacted to protect homosexuals. Not only the society affects the life style of homosexuals, the homosexuals also have influences
、on the society. They change peoples ideas about love, and they also make people think more about love and family. (Knapp, 2008)3.1 Analysis of such relationshipsPeople who are considered as lesbians or gays must have suffered a lot living in the society. Wherever they go, they have to confront with
、peoples non-understanding and contempt. If they can choose, they may feel like living as a normal. They want to be a real man or a real woman, not a gay or lesbian. As is known, a real man is male first, and he should be masculine. A real woman has female categories and is feminine. If one lives in a
、 normal situation with the expectations of his/her parents, the boy may grow up to be a real man while the girl may grow up to be a real woman. Nowadays, sociologists and psychologists have done some research about the un-normal sex orientation. (Calzo and Ward, 2009) They focus their research on ho
、w women and men come to identify themselves as lesbian or gay, how they interact among themselves, and what impact society has on themThe research denies the idea that lesbians and gays are pathological or inherently deviant. Researchers think the society situations people live in play important role
、s in building peoples personalities. How does one become gay or lesbian can be decided by many different factors, such as social factors, biological and personal ones. All these factors lead to the unconscious formation of a persons sexual orientation. Many researchers believe that the sexual interest or direction has been established by age four or five. But it takes considerable time to identify oneself as lesbian or gay. (Cabaj, 2009)The situation where the child grows up plays an important role in building childs c
