We are in Italy now, and tomorrow we are visiting Pompeii. Next week we are flying to China, and going to Loulan, which is known as Chinas Pompeii in the desert
2、. Both Pompeii and Loulan became lost civilizations about 2,000 years ago.Day2-16th JulyThis morning we went to a lecture about Pompeii. The city was founded in the 8th century BC. In 89 BC, the Romans took over Pompeii. It then became a rich city. Near the city was a volcano called Vesuvius. On 24t
3、h August AD 79, the volcano erupted and lava, ash and rocks poured out of it onto the surrounding countryside. It continued to erupt for the next three days. Unfortunately, all the people were buried alive, and so was the city!Day3-17th JulyToday I saw the ancient Roman city of Pompeii as it was 2,0
4、00 years ago. How amazing! The city was forgotten for many years until 18th century when a farmer found some stone with writing on it. People started to dig in the area for treasure, which caused much damage. So in 1860, the Italian archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli ws made director of the Pompeii dig
5、. When I walked around the city, I saw streets just as they had been, with stepping stones along the road so you did not have to step in the mud in the streets on rainy days! I saw several houses with mosaic floors and wall paintings. I also saw the bodies of people that had been turned to stone whe
6、n they had been covered with ashthey are kept exactly as they were2,000 years ago. The volcano is still quite volcano destroyed the whole city! Tomorrow we are off to Naples to visit the museum that houses many of the treasures form Pompeii.Day10-24th JulyFinally, we arrived in Loulan after several
7、days of travelling. I was too tired to eat anything we were given. I ate neither the noodles nor the rice, and I was very hungry by the time we arrived.This small, wealthy commercial city existed almost 2,000 years ago. It was a believed by many people to have been gradually covered over by sandstor
8、ms from AD200 to AD500 . I am so excited to be here!Day11-25th JulyAn archaeologist from the local cultural institute, Professor Zhang, told us that 100 years ago the Swedish explorer Sven Hedin discovered the ruins of the Loulan Kingdom. Seven found the remains of buildings buried under the sand, t
9、ogether with a lot of treasures, such as coins, painted pots, silk materials, documents and wall paintings. When we went to the city, we saw the city walls, palaces, temples, workshops and towers. We found the ruins most interesting. There was an ancient water system that ran through the middle of the city. The desert was once a green land with enormous trees, but even that didnt prevent the city from being buried by sand what a pity!
