This EMA program is designed specifically for non-Chinese speakers who are interested in Chinese society, cul
4、ture, politics, and development, all of which are rapidly transforming China. Our mission in the EMA is to enhance the students analytical skills with knowledge to understand Chinas past, present and future; our goal is to offer them a foundation for their future academic study and professional care
5、ers.The English-instructed Masters Degree in Chinese Society (EMA) provides an excellent opportunity for students with little or no Chinese language skills to develop a deep understanding of China in the modern world. All courses are taught in English.The EMA program consists of a two-year full-time
6、 course study. The first year of the program is designed to provide a solid grounding in Chinese culture, society and issues of social development. The third semester of the program provides research opportunity on China. EMA students are required to complete and defend an MA thesis. Students fulfil
7、ling all degree requirements will be awarded a master degree by Fudan University. The EMA program also admits non-degree students. Non-degree students taking the program courses will be issued a transcript/certificate.Overview of the program sponsor and research resourcesThe EMA degree is sponsored
8、by the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) at Fudan University. SSDPP has four departments: Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Social Management & Social Policy; and one academic research institute: Institute of Population Research. SSDPP has shown outstanding performances in bot
9、h academic research and degree programs.SSDPP has a strong faculty committed to teaching and research. As of the middle of 2010, the School had 68 faculty and staff members, 39 of whom were professors and associate professors. The School runs the international joint-programs with Bergen University f
10、rom Norway, Lund University from Sweden, Queens University from Canada, and the University of California from the US. SSDPP is actively engaged with the international academic community and has networked with renowned institutes in the US, Japan, Korea, UK, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, as well a
11、s other countries.Degree programThe EMA degree program is a two-year full-time program. The program requires students to complete at least 31 non-thesis credits within two academic years and successfully defend their MA thesis, orally and written, in English. Students will be assigned a supervisor f
12、or assistance in conducting their research. The school will provide necessary logistical help. Admission CriteriaWith a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent qualifications; IBT 85 or higher or IELTS sore of 5 or higher. Applicants from the countries where English is

20、egreel Before the thesis writing, degree candidates are expected to complete the minimum credit requirement (31). To be considered to be awarded the degree, candidates must pass all required courses and all the courses they elected.l Candidates can nominate their thesis supervisors in the beginning
21、of the third semester. In the case that a candidate does not wish nominate her/his supervisors, the Program will appoint one supervisor on behalf of the candidate.l By the end of the third semester, the candidate is required to submit a thesis proposal to her/his supervisors. The thesis proposal mus
22、t be approved and endorsed by the supervisor. l In the fifth week of the fourth semester, the candidate is required to fill in and submit the Graduation Form. The Graduation Form is available from the office of the School of Social Development and Public Policy (Room 1018, Liberty Arts Building).l A
23、fter completing the thesis writing, the candidate is required to submit two hard copies of the thesis (along with a Thesis Review Form) for external review. The Thesis Review Form is available from the office of the School of Social Development and Public Policy (Room 1018, Liberty Arts Building).l
24、If the thesis is satisfied by the external reviewers, the candidate will be informed to prepare her/his thesis defense. The Program will form a thesis defense committee consisting of 3-5 professors. During the thesis defense, the candidate is required to brief her/his thesis and answer the questions
25、 raised by the thesis defense committee. In the case that the thesis cannot pass the external review, the candidate will be advised to revise the thesis and re-submit it for the second external review within a specified period.l Based on the recommendation of the thesis defense committee, the Degree

29、view of existing literature and offer intellectual analyses.l The thesis should be written in English, typed, paginated, double-spaced, with Times New Roman 12 point font, and about 8,00010,000 words, plus any figures and tables you wish to use, and a list of references.l A Chicago style of referenc
30、ing is recommended.l Students are advised to pay special attention to University policy and regulations on honesty in academic work, and to the disciplinary guidelines and procedures applicable to reaches of such policy.Tuition and application processing feesThe two-year tuition for degree student i
