8、erated state of Enlightenment (Nirvana) (灭)vThe way to Nirvana is through the “Eight-Fold Path.” (道)Buddhism in China In 64 AD (Eastern Han Dynasty), Kasyapa-matanga (伽叶摩腾) and Gobharana (竺法兰) were invited to the White Horse Temple in Luoyang to translate the Buddhist classics. The first works compl
9、eted were later known as the “Sutra of the Forty-Two Sections,” (四十二章经) the first Buddhist sutra in Chinese. Xuanzang (玄奘)During the early Tang dynasty, Xuanzang journeyed to in India for 17-year and brought back and translated the scriptures propagating Mahayana Buddhism. The proliferation of these
10、 sutras expanded the Chinese Buddhist canon significantly with high quality translations of some of the most important Indian Mahayana sutras.Master Fa Xian (法显): the first Chinese monk travelerMaster Fa Xian and his companions reached 29 countries and brought back a huge mount of Buddhist classics
11、from 399 412 (Eastern Jin Dynasty). He devoted the rest of his life to translating these works.Jianzhen (鑒真)Jianzhen visited Japan some six times from 743 to 754 and propagated Buddhism. He is credited with the introduction of the Ritsu (律宗) school of Buddhism to Japan. vTo do no evil,to do only goo
