Teaching Procedure (45mins)Step 1 Warming-up (5mins)Play a clip about Benjamin Bunny and give a rough introduction about the story, then lead to the writer - Beatrix Potter to introduce the p
7、rotagonist and the main idea of the reading article.Step 2 Skimming (7mins)Ask students to read the first and the last sentence of each paragraph to finish exercise 5. If students can get the answer correctly, teacher continues to introduce the skill - skimming. If they cant, teacher can correct the
8、m during the introduction about skimming.Skimming: Looking quickly through the text to get a general idea of what it is about.How to skim: Usually read the first and the last sentence of the text or paragraph. 15、erry Fox Run do nowadays?Is the Terry Fox Run held in your country?If you were to listen to his mother, you would think that Terry Fox was “a very ordinary young man.” Yet the legacy of his short life has been anything but ordinary. He has been the subject of two movies and two songs, has had a moun
16、tain named after him, and has appeared on the face of a coin. At the age of 18, Terry was diagnosed with bone cancer, and while having his leg amputated above the knee, the suffering of other cancer patients he had seen convinced him that he should do something. So, he decided to attempt to raise fu
17、nds for cancer research by, incredibly, running across Canada and showing that he was no less of a man just 10 because cancer had claimed one of his legs. On 12 April 1980, Terry Fox set out on his journey. Beginning at St. Johns, his goals were to run to Vancouver, a distance of more than 8,000km,
18、and to raise $24 million in donations, one dollar for each Canadian. Setting off on his journey with one natural and one artificial leg, Fox somehow managed to cover a distance of 42km a day, approximately the length of a marathon. After 143 days he was well over half way to achieving his goal of cr
19、ossing Canada, but that was to be his last day of running. Terrys cancer had spread to his lungs, and he, along with his dream of finishing his “Marathon of Hope,” was dying. Before passing away, he helped set up the Terry Fox Run to commemorate his Marathon of Hope. Each year people help raise fund
20、s for cancer research by collecting donations and running a short marathon in his memory. Upon Terrys insistence, the Run is not competitive: There are no winners, no ribbons, no prizes. Today his Run is held annually in over 50 countries and has raised more than $300 million for cancer research. Hi

It is also a good way to motivate their interest and draw their attention on the key points. Meanwhile, task-
