4、quent interruptions by the commercials that attempt to sell unneeded products every 5 minutes. Furthermore,reading is more a learning processthan an entertaining one. Through reading books, people improve their literacy and acquire skills. Watching TV often gives nothing but an entertaining story. F

It follows that we are obliged to fight against those weaknesses of ours if we are to accomplish something in our life. I believe the first weakness f

7、or us to conquer is laziness. Idleness is the root of all evils. A lazy person could never expect to accomplish anything. On the contrary, hard work is essential for anyone to achieve their goals. Secondly, we should work on our moodiness. More than the elderly, we suffer from bad mood now and then.

8、 Such negative state of mind will affect our interpersonal relationship. And a good interpersonal relationship constitutes a key factor to success. Remind yourself of what you have in life and be grateful for that. Do regular exercises. Find something interesting to do. These will help cheer you up

9、and create a positive attitude toward life, which will certainly lead to a better you. Moreover, it is very important for us to fight against jealousy and vanity. No one can be free from jealousy and vanity. On the one hand, we feel sorry when other people are doing better than we do. On the other h

10、and, we envy other people for they have achieved what we havent. Getting rid of these weaknesses is definitely a great step forward toward self-improvement and future accomplishments. I think it would be more reasonable to take the view that we need both buying and borrowing.As the famous philosopher Bacon said, “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed and some few to be chewed and digested.”, books are of

14、ause books borrowed normally have a deadline to force us into finishing them in a limited time. However, for the books to be chewed and digested, such as classical literary works and textbooks, Id like to buy them. Compared with borrowing books, buying them can offer us more freedom. We can keep the

15、 books as long as we wish, and moreover take whatever notes on the margin of the pages.In short, whether to buy or to borrow books depends on what kind of book it is. 19、only go from bad to worse. But so long as you have an optimistic state of mind, you can have everything under control and therefore be more hopeful. Last but not least, God help those who help themselves. Optimism itself is like God in the depth of our soul. It invites help from people around you, w

20、hich will eventually increase hope. In short, optimism is a positive attitude toward life, and it helps to increase hope. Topic 30 The Best Way to Reduce StressStress is hard to escape in todays fast-paced world. It has become a big challenge because our lives are getting faster and we havent learne

21、d how to cope with it, and because the sources of stress are many. Since there is no cure-all for us to deal with stresses and strains of our daily life, every one of us is trying in our own ways to reduce stress. As for me, the best way to reduce stress is exercise.Firstly, according to medical res

22、earch, when we exercise, our brains release certain chemical substances which bring feelings of happiness and relaxation. Secondly, physical exercise benefits both our mind and our body. While stress is mental, the symptoms of stress are mostly physical, such as skin problems, high blood pressure, f

23、atigue, insomnia and frustration, etc. Physical exercise not only helps us reduce stress, but also keeps us fit. Consequently, a fit person is most probably a happy one. Last but not least, physical exercise in this case doesnt consume too much time. Physical exercise for the purpose of reducing str

24、ess shouldnt be too violent and fierce. We can engage ourselves in some regular exercise such as walking, jogging, dancing or swimming on a daily basis.There are many helpful ways to reduce stress and, as I mentioned above, none of them is panacea for all. We should find our own ways and incorporate

Topic 29 Can Wealth Bring Happiness?Wealth and happiness always have countless ties. On the one hand, wealth can satisfy our material desires and therefore sometimes meet o

Its really hard to answer the age-old question “Can wealth bring happiness?” In my point of view, I dont agree that wealth can bring happiness. I conceive of the two as not absolute

27、ly related. Happiness is not something that can be measured by wealth, but by the state of mind. For one thing, we all know that the worlds wealth has soared during the twentieth century, and economists expect it to continue rising in the decades ahead. Does that mean that we humans are happier than

Wealth can buy us some material things but cannot free us from sadness or worries. For another, wealth can not bring happiness, neither can poverty. Its a mistake to ass

29、ume that wealth will affect everyone in the same way. Being rich or poor, people make choices about how they treat wealth, and those choices can boost happiness or undermine happiness. All in all, the amount of wealth doesnt represent the degree of happiness. Happiness cant be weighed by wealth. It

In todays world, self-confidence is a basis for our survival, both at work and at home. Self-confidence brings acceptance, love, peace and energy. And all of

33、 these in turn make our confidence grow even more.Second, self-confident people inspire confidence in others: their audience, their peers, their bosses, their customers, and their friends. Oftentimes even a single self-confident person can change the attitudes of all the people in a room. Sometimes

34、it seems as if the world itself decided to help such a man. A confident person attracts friendship and respect. Spreading confidence to others is one of the key ways in which a self-confident person finds success. All other things being equal, self-confidence is so important that it is often the sin

37、s better than any other ways of communication.First of all, face-to-face communication is usually effective because people meet and see each other, apart from the information exchanged verbally, things like their facial expressions and body movements also help them understand each other, and so ther

But we have to admit that this way of communication is overwhelmingly restricted by time and space, since quite often we will have to communicate with people who are far away or tied up at the moment. 39、r text message under such circumstances become efficient means of communication. We can call people if they are far away, and we can email them if they are tied up for the time being. Furthermore, making telephone calls is also a way of immediate communication except that we cant see the person. Now

Video and audio online communication can function equally like face-to-face communication.In a nutshell, I dont think face-to-face communication is better than any other communication means in the fast-paced world.
